The photo above represents the not so picturesque side of Ramsey. It's a majestic buliding that has been sadly empty for some years now. The lower half (not photographed) used to be one of our local shops, but it's the top half I wanted to highlight.
This is the kind of building on the high street that is crying out to be renovated and turned into suitable living accommodation. It would be cheaper than a new building, and a once repainted much easier on the eye. Left empty and neglected for years now, it's rapidly falling into further decline, soon to be beyond repair. So any business out there looking for a retail outlet in Ramsey, with rental accommodation, here it is. Prime location, loads of floor space, easy access need I say more.?As you can see ,this is particular pet hate of mine, but in this I know I am not a lone voice.
On a lighter note, the infestation of traffic cones seems to be dwindling, which must mean we are expecting tourists. So to all those mad bikers out there who are coming here, a warm welcome awaits. Oh. My. God. This is really ugly (although living here I can't really say anything - the architecture is horrific!). I guess a colour photo wouldn't have been any better either since it's so... rotten. Urgh. Maybe you should commission a new building lol.

How fun to meet up with fellow bloggers! I did that out in San Francisco and it was wonderful! I am with you on the abandoned building....think of how the tourists would love to stay there...or maybe turn it into condos....something...what a waste to just set there for such a majestic building....I had to go and look you up....again! Once I was reading about the Isle of Man I realized I had looked it up before...Naw, I'm not old or anything!

B&W emphasises the neglect that this poor building has suffered. Please somebody do something about it, it has just so much potential to be beautiful again.

hmmm, your treatment to it made it look classic! Its bad that the government does neglect buildings or homes that could be a source of income too...
What a FANTASTICALY eerie shot.
There is a Japanese design philosophy that stats we need to celebrate an items in what ever stage of it's life cycle. We need to find more beauty in the grotesque or the abnormal.

Louis sincerely hopes this fine old building is renovated. It is such a fine thing when buildings built before "modernism" ruined architecture find new life. Compare this building, even in its decline, with the image of the "Shoprite" a couple of days ago. No comparison.

I liked this photo very much. The black and white was a very good choice, and does underscore the neglect. I posted something similar today. It is sad to see buildings in such a state of decay - regardless of how you feel about the achitecture. We call this demolition by neglect, and it is a sorry manifestation, I think, of our throw-away society.

In real estate speak, this building has 'loads of potential'. It's a shame to see it let go like this, as these scrub up very well.
we have so many of those grand old buildings in hania - they are usually bought by some rich company and turend into offices...

It's less expensive, and better for the environment, to "recycle" old buildings than it is to tear them down and build new ones.I hope this one gets recycled into a new life. Looks like it would be worth it. Generally, you folks do that better than we do here on the other side of the pond, but we're improving.
Any news on this old building 3 months later?? I appreciate your eye and heart for matters like this.....
