Day is done

The long and winding road

When the day is done and I take the short walk home from downtown I have the choice of four routes, . Not often I go this way but I knew this road would be empty during the motorbike event and guessed in the golden hour the shadows would be at play and the curving sweep of the road could be viewed in a prettier light than usual. This road is usually busy with workman and sprawling vehicles due to the housing estate on the left being knocked down and rebuilt. It is usually shrouded under a layer of fine cement dust when dry and mud puddles when wet. Not at all a pleasant walk when you have bags of shopping and forced to jaywalk due to parked vehicles and railings cordoning off the path. Dodging rush hour and school run traffic is not my idea of a leisurely walk at all! As you can see not a soul around apart from my camera and I on a fine dry summer's evening. Heavenly!

Sad news today for us City Daily Bloggers. One of our most popular brethren Ming The Merciless, New York City Daily Photo has drawn a veil on the blog. The Northern Sky has lost one of it's brightest blogging stars to the real world. Ming is in the next phase of his life down the long and winding road and his fabulous blog will cease to be. Fortunately you can all catch up with his marvellous back posts a must for anyone curious, visiting or relocating to New York. One of these things I know blogs ceasing, but I am genuinely sorry to see this one end. Good job he's on Facebook then to follow his next adventure. Ha! Escape from New York, but not the net Ming.

Looks like you got to enjoy a quiet peaceful stroll. Very pretty road (at least when it's empty and quiet like in the photo)! ;)

The curve of the road and the clouds above makes me feel I'm speeding along it--love this photo. Glad you had a pretty day for the drive too, but road works, ugh. All our roads are filled with workers and diggers too, this time of year.

Thanks for Ming's link too!

'The long and winding road' (yes, I like this title) : could be dull but you made an exciting photo of it with the winding and the shadows, very well done if you ask me.

What a treat to find the road quiet on your way home. How clever of you to go that way on a delightful summer evening.

Glad you had a nice walk home. I can't imagine a more peaceful way to end a work day. That curve is most inviting.

I love the say you shot the curve into the sky. Beautifully done!

I'm sure it was nice to have a break from the motorcross - still, I had to smile at the contrast of your words reality and my mind's picture of the "slow road"

Well done, all round.

Bewitching. I only get to see your island when we come for the bikes. You make even the boring areas look magical.

Be nice to meet next year?

The shadows add so much intrigue to this photo. It makes me think that Mrs. Nesbitt is lurking around a corner waiting to scare you-- for fun!

Scs- It is a corner. I'm good but no that good ha! ha! It does help with the wmall wide angled lens though makes the angle nice and tight.

Nice shot this too, the light on the road gives it a look of silk. It's nice to hit the streets when they are empty :)

Superb photo...to walk that road is to walk toward the unknown, where adventure but also danger offers itself in competing venues...choices must be made...where will the road end?

Dewdrop said...

You've launched me there... to the now-deserted, but usually bustling little suburb. Very lovely shadows in your shot.

Great Skywatch entry - what a curve!!

Bet the island is quiet now all the motorbikes have gone. Just the visitors propping up the ailing Manx economy.

I like the shadows of the trees, like fingers stretching out to the world.

Hi Babbs, I like the tree shadows and the clouds to the west. The picture did not enlarge for me to see if those are the mountains beneath the clouds or clouds all the way down to the horizon?

I was sorry to hear about John Crellin. I don't follow the biking and didn't see it reported in our news here. You may have known him?
Do they stop the electric tram, from Laxey to Snaefell Mountain summit, for the races? Paste this:

I hadn't been to Ming's blog for a few days and was completely surprised by your notice, so I went to check it out. I'm also really sorry to see him go, because he was one of my inspirations for getting here myself. We actually visited him in NY in May and had such a nice time meeting him! I left a long comment on his blog. Hope he gets it. I know we have to move on sometimes, and to do these blogs "right" takes time. I will miss his vision and insights, though. Go, Ming, have a great next phase! Babooshka, thanks for keeping me up on the news. I'm enjoying your TT photos a lot. It's been years since I saw a roadrace in person. So exciting!

Karl said...

I too have been away from the TT for too long. Thanks for following races. On my bucket list for next year defo.

Tapirgal- I'm sure Ming will be back but NY will be missing something now.
