Back to the birds. No Vikings or historical snippets about the island and it's inhabitants today I'm sorry to say. Most important thing was to rescue my photos from my laptop. If in doubt about what shot to use I can always rely on my trusty bird shots, especially for odd shots!
For the eagle- eyed( no pun intended) you can see my odd shot today is one of the mad male siskins that have a habit of flying into the patio windows. You all know the story by now, but for nubies this one was in a bad way, hopped onto my hand a stayed long enough for me to grab my camera and try out my new macro lens one handed. Eventually of course he took flight as they always do. By the way, this isn't the same as the other two siskin in the hand shots( go back and check the post) but one of about 20 I took that day for times when I need a back up shot, er like today for instance. A bird in the hand is worth more than one in the bush for me!
Can I please point out that I am not a Manx witch or fairy and I have no idea why birds do this to me as I have cast no magic spell upon the island's critters. Well actually I have but don't tell them or they will throw me off the island for not having a work permit to be a Manx witch, when there are plenty of locals who could do the job, but just to lazy to turn up for work, or qualified, but who cares they're Manx. Meooow! Fetch me a saucer of milk.

It's late I'm tied and annoyed. Will be better tomorrow and be visiting. Cabin Fever and Laptop blues.
Pretty!
WINGING IT, at Practically at Home
What a great ‘odd’ shot … and story to go with in your early Monday post. I enjoyed your Camera Critter’s ‘seal’ too! Thanks for dropping by my Saturday CC post at Small Reflections. I ended up doing another CC on Sunday (introducing a Golden Doodle who visits the neighborhood and plays with Molly periodically) to catch up for a week I missed previously.
Hugs and blessings,
Like your own Alfred Hitchcock movie...
Beautiful shot! Your windows must be extremely clean.
Yes cute shot. I also think you must have very clean windows. A bird flew into my glass patio sliding door this spring and I have let it get dusty since then to discourage further accidents. Also I hung a dreamcatcher in it to make it look less open.
Sorry you have the laptop blues. Your images are lovely as always.
Here's to your healing as well as the repetitive siskins who've visited you have done.
What a cutie! You must give off a bird friendly vibe. Hope you've had luck in rescueing your photos.
It's a terrific photo & it is odd the way birds seem to like you a lot - a Mrs Dolittle who talks to the birds!
Take care
Blue
A beautiful odd thing.
By the way i am campaigning for INSULARE and DONGISM in Filipino Blog of the Week. Kindly VOTE for them in Talksmart's or my blog. The poll is in the upper right side of the blog. Just check both their names. Take Care!!!
elle est belle cette photo. il est très mignon sur ta main, et il n'a pas peur. Tu es la Docteur Doolittle des oiseaux (la vraie version avec Rex HARRISON).
it is beautiful this picture. it is very cute on your hand, and he was not afraid. You're the Doctor Doolittle birds (the real version with Rex Harrison).
This is such a great shot, I'm soooo envious.
very beautiful close up
Must have been the week for siskin - Dragonstar managed some shots of ours - but we don't do handheld. You are the expert.
A very nice photo!
I love photographing birds but I have not yet been able to get them on my hand envy, envy, envy :)
Yet again a cracking photo Babooshka. Wish we had siskins come to our garden. All we seem to get are sparrows along with a couple of feral pigeons, the odd crow and a multitude of gulls.
poor she.
Beautiful.
Argh! You actually managed to get a hold of Goldfrapp? My red button wasn't working (sob!).
Anyway, nice pic. The little fells is sooo cute.
Ciao

Lots of birds fly into windows thinking it is a dark place to escape like under a bush or into a tree only to crack their bodies and heads on the glass.
It sometimes helps to leave a small light on or to close venetian blinds part way. or to pull lace curtains. Nothing really helps though and it is sad that some break their beaks and stave to death.
Abraham Lincoln
Brookville, Ohio happened naturally.
Somebody asked me yesterday if I had named the pigeon we rescued. I said, No, but if I'd kept it, I would have named it Babooshka! If you're a fairy, you're the GOOD FAIRY of Feathered Friends! GREAT SHOT as always!
OH....my bluebird is back pecking on my windows. He hasn't hurt himself and doesn't fly into them like he thinks they're not there (they're way too dirty for that) .. it's like he's just tapping to say hello!
Great photo ~ and I'm glad to hear you're not able to cast magic spells.
Very pretty sweet bird.
It was only last week that I saw my first young siskin in our garden, and you have them climbing all over you. Jealous? Me?
Great photo and wonderful story to go with it even if it is an odd thing for the beautiful bird to do.
You are lucky to get a great shot like this, glad to see you've got it all in hand!
I could have done a similar shot but unfortunatly the blackbird didn't make it. I don't know whether it flew into the window or if a cat got it. Either way he's gone to the big bird nest in the sky :(
gorgeous greenery!
I have pigeons that routinely fly into my windows, they all seem to recover, but they leave a little dust outline on the window.
Poor leetle siskin, bet he appreciated having a place to rest.
I never tire of the bird shots.
(What about the find at Douglas? May I be of assistance?)

Great picture.. or a stunning if not 'stunned' little bird..
Manx Witch... LOOK HERE if they think youa witch beware or the locals ;o)
What a cute little fellow. He does look a bit dazed. I have never understood why birds fly into windows, but it seems to be a rather common occurrence.
Thnks for stopping by.
How beautiful - I'm glad he was OK in the end, but stopped long enough for you to get the picture!
Fabulous capture, Babooshka!
What a cute little bird.
Great odd shot post.
Yes! You are certainly Dr Doolittleish!
Good one-handed photo.
Nice bird rescue.
Our black & blue is odd.
Come visit,
Troy and Martha
great photo - specially one handed! he is a cute little guy :)
A wonderful post and a terrific shot... lucky you! I hereby banish your laptop blues!!
Oh my gosh, how cute is that little birdie.
He's a hansdome little fellow. I'll bet he sees his reflection in the window and is trying to fight off the intruder.
I'd say your macor lens works very well.
Not sure about the withc part. There are ways to determine such things. Witches are made of wood and wood floats. So, if you weigh the same as a duck, which also floats, then you're a witch. Classic Monty Python material. I don't know, it just popped into my head. ;)
Gorgeous.
This is trully wonderful ... a wild bird fling on to your hand and let himself be photographed? Wow. People of the Isle of Man must be very friendly to the wildlife that even a wild bird can feel comfortable in a photographer's hand ... ^_^ Great shot!
Btw, thanks for dropping by my blog and leaving a nice comment.
Babooshka: Very cool picture. I have never had a bird fly into a window and daze them. Your island birds are bewitched but by who.
I LOVE your Siskin!
