SKYWATCH FRIDAY - STORMY WEATHER

Despite the blue skies we've had here in Ramsey and the Isle of Man in general, I still find myself photographing storm clouds. Image taken outside Shoprite, supermarket. You can imagine the looks I received when I pointed the camera to the heavens and began snapping, especially when framing the image to include the cute lampost no one else is remotely interested in.

Since participating in Skywatch I have noticed how the light changes around the world. Here it's definately opaque and dense. Grey, purple hues are the norm. When the sky is blue, it's a rich deep hue. The sunsets vibrant oranges to vivid reds. Whatever the colour, it's always appears treacle like and opaque. Some Skywatchers seem to have a soft clear liquid light, usually pastel pinks and blues in tones, almost fluid such as Louis La Vache's SAN FRANSICO BAY
Looking at the big sky for skywatch around the world is certainly never dull.

If you want to particpate in skywatch see Tom at WIGGERS WORLD.

Interesting observations about the quality of light in other parts of the world. This sky today certainly has purple hues and great drama. I like the light (?) tucked into the corner. Very effective composition.

Your comments on the quality of light are very interesting. I will pay more attention to that in future. Fascinating.

Beautiful color in the pic. I do like the lamp-post for added perspective. MB

Good observation. I have even commented occasionally that we NEVER have a sky with deep, deep colors, or at least it's very rare. Ours are the pastels.

Very moody shot--almost a good versus bad image with the dark on the right and the light on the left!

Beautiful contrast of colors. It must have rained heavily after.

A beautiful picture and for my personal taste so much more interesting than a cloudless blue sky.Your observations on the changes in light round different parts of the world are interesting as well.

"Louis" thanks you for your comments. As Chuck Pefley wrote to "Louis" and "Louis" pointed out to a reader, all "Louis" does is hang the Olympus over the balcony and shoot. Mother Nature has done the work. "Louis", too, has noticed the difference in the skies. For example, in his native Texas Panhandle, the skies are almost always heavy and opaque - in no small measure a result of the leaden humidity of the area.

The lamp post nicely frames your photo.

This is beautiful and the coloring is just leaves me in awe.

commentators have often remarked that my photos have grey skies and rarely vivid blues as seen in places like California and Hawaii.

Your sky here seems unnaturally purple - could be my screen or how I see it (elements of colour blindness).

The lamp does help the focus.

What stunning purples there - though I'm not sure I'd want to be standing under those clouds when they start shedding their load!

Purple sky, very nice. I hate cloudy weather though so i think i will just admire the picture.

Nice blog!

That is a great shot. I am so glad some one else photos skies outside the supermarket and notices the lampposts etc.! Either we are both mad, or both sane and the world is mad. (I claim the latter).

Beautiful colours - it's nice to see an English sky with so much character (instead of dull grey...)

I haven't joined skywatch yet - I'm not sure I have interesting enough sky shots. I do Sun (Critters) Mon (odd shot) and Wed (ABC) for now. Thank you for coming by mine.
