Do you think a cold front means a warm back?
Well I hope you all agree with me this is definitely odd. Taken over Mooragh Park by the entrance form the roadside, I spotted this very strange horizontal set of lines. I have the colour versions too but it was so striking in contrast I knew immediately it would be an ideal black and white and an strange one too.
The feint vertical lines are not rays of light but extremely fine rain, so why was the cloud so light and white? I took this with the little Olympus and no alterations so those shades are as taken. The horizontal lines ran for quite a length either side of this image Looks like the clouds are full of lovely white snow doesn't it, but unfortunately not. No this weird image is quite a common sight here, it's called a "cold front" a weather phenomena .
So there you are. A natural weather occurrence not at all odd when you know what one is but decidedly weird when you don't. We actually get them here a lot usually followed by rain and followed with me and camera as they are ideal photography subjects. I hope the rowers didn't get too wet on the lake. It really did precipitate down fairly soon after this was taken.

We don't get that particular look, but when we get a wall cloud, that means a tornado in Texas...just not that sort of wall cloud.
Get them over Laxey Beach a lot. It looks creepy with no colour. Always the best Isle of Man Photos here.
Almost looks like a wave about to come crashing down. Never seen clouds like that before.
You are correct this is a cold front. Possibly occurs with rainfall in your area as it is quite a small island which I believe has a heavy rain content. I doubt you would have a mini tornados with this as those cold fronts over Kansas do. Interesting blog.
Good catch there. Around here those type of clouds are normally associated with severe weather.

OMG, look at that fog bank. We see these along the coast all the time. Here in the valley, we can see them roll in across the foothills from the west. Amazing picture.

This monochrome effects really gives more drama to the image that the full color cannot deliver.

A good record shot and a good picture. Father-in-law was a wartime Met man in the RAF - looks like a plate from one of his books.
That is strange (but a beautiful photo!) It somehow reminds me of small kids' drawings when they try to make the horizon/sky very, very separate, and leave a space somewhere inbetween.

Yes much more dramatic in b&w. So that's what a cold front looks like. Guess you're in for some more weather on the IOM.

a fairly common sight here too - it is easy to forget that such an instantly recognisable formation is odd and strange to those in foreign climes.
one nit - not sure if you can fix - but the blue links are almost invisible to me against the black background.

That's a familiar sight to me too, and for some reason it struck me funny seeing it all those thousands of miles away!

Here in Ontario a cold front often brings clear blue skies as well as cool temperatures. Blue skies are GOOD thing, as far as I'm concerned. ;-)

Awesome! It does look dramatic in black and white. From a distance (small shot), it reminds me of pics you see of a tidal wave coming in.
