Ramsey Harbour
Working boats
As you can see we have very different weather here to most bloggers. It's either been rain, fog or an unnaturally still aura about the place. The one thing we haven't had is snow. Just as well really for the boats above moored by the harbour side wall I'm referring too, that's a real life working boat. There is also another behind out of view. I don't usually see the boats here in the day they are usually out at sea.
Not being a fisherman myself (or woman) by either trade or hobby I couldn't tell you what type of fish they would be fishing for, quantity, quality etc. All I know is the boats go out and then they return laden or not with goodies, Manx kippers of course and scallops. Well for now anyway. The Scallop Industry on the island is going through a credit crunch which you can read about here that may scupper scallop fishing in the future. So those boats may be at rest a lot longer than the short time I had to take their image.
In case you are wandering what Manx kippers and Queenie scallops taste like well to be honest
I couldn't tell you. I'm a veggie but Gary's not. Well he is from Fleetwood and they used to have even more fisherman than the island. What occupation is suffering due to the credit crunch in your area.
The Barker christmas card will be posted tomorrow.

Cracking photo Babooshka, love the new angle from the bridge. Not often you see them moored along this wall though they do keep old nets etc on the quayside in that area. Boats look familiar and if Im not mistaken will be scallop dredgers. That's the norm out of Ramsey anyway. They scrape / dredge up the scallop shells bring them to the surface then put them through that rotating drum effort that is found on these vessels for sorting. Both kippers and Queenies I love.......Hope you and Gary have a good Christmas and an even better New Year.....
I can only apologise for cutting and pasting this comment, but there was no way on Earth I would be able to make it around the whole globe to wish everybody a Merry Christmas otherwise. I have only one pair of hands and the magical elves that I have working for me are a bunch of lazy good-for-nothings. All they do is sit around smoking, playing cards and throwing rocks at the reindeer!
Anyway, from myself, Henry and Ezra, have a Merry Christmas/Winter Solstice/Hanukkah/Festivus and a happy New Year!
I hope that all of your holiday photos turn out to be triumphs, and may your stocking be stuffed full of lots of tasty treats and not coal!
In our area (southwestern Ontario, Canada) the industry that's making the financial hardship headlines more than most is the auto industry. Vehicles are built in and near this area by GM, Toyota and Honda to name a few. So they are all affected, as are a multitude of parts plants which supply them. North American car makers are still making waaaaaay too many vehicles which are waaaay too large.
On a more positive note, Merry/Happy Christmas!
Lovely photo.
Happy Holidays!
The death of this industry would be a disaster for the island. Well done for highlighting this with a pretty photograph. First time visitor.

Hi Babooshka, hope you have a lovely Christmas. Between the weather and Christmas shopping and snow shoveling, my blogging has suffered! Love your working boats...not a fan of some fish but I do like scallops!
Best Holiday wishes to you & and the waterfolk. Aloha-
I see you too have blue sky! Not bad for Winter time!
I wish you a happy Christmas.
I'm glad your not one of those veggies that eat fish...and chicken...and waffer thin ham...anyway...I probably won't get back here before christmas so I wish you and Gary a very happy christmas. I really do hope things get better for Gary in 2009.
Many thanks to you for all your encouragement this year. At times I felt I had lost my way with this blogging thing. Now I just enjoy taking photos and not worrying about the rest of it!
Warmest festive greetings
Marley :)
The wafer thin ham is a joke here too.
Thanks for the picture. I'm not sure how many of our scallops come from your area, but they've been hard to find lately. Home building is probably hardest hit around here -- we don't have much industry.
Actually, W is for Wayne.
I like this image a lot Babs.
The car industry in Detroit. Gone baby gone. Props to the photographer.
Merry Christmas to you and yours! May it be happy and blessed!
cool pic! here is to sunny days ahead....happy holidays!
This is gorgeous. Were the stairs already that perfect yellow or did you have to go out and paint them just to get such great color in this shot?
Around here it seems to be construction and tourism hardest hit -- so far.
A friendly Christmas greeting to wish you and your family happiness at this special time of the year.
Merry Chrustmas

Lovely shot Babooshka. Here it seems the auto industry, well and banks, to be the hardest hit. My husband is in the rv industry and they are plugging along. Things don't seem so bad to us, but then we really don't watch much news. Seems anyone can get depressed when you listen to the media, who always wants to tell us the sky is falling.
Merry Christmas!
lovely shades of blue there..
That little lifeboat looks just a bit more modern than the ones on the box of Lifeboat Tea (Williamson Teas Limited) I purchase locally. My favorite, by the way. 4 pence from the sale of each box is paid in support of the RNLI charity and helps fund little boats like yours.
Actually when Wayne acts a fool I call him W for you know who! That straightens him right us usually.
B,
Thank you for being a wonderful blog friend this year. YOu have offered help, expert advice, wit and been just a fabulous friend. Here's to many more my friend. I need to take some time off but don't know if or when.

Nice & cool post,I love its.By the way I wish you a Merry, merry Christmas and wonderful holiday.
Great shot. MB
I lived amongst Working Boats of one sort or another - including our own.
I could have spared the world my not very good illustrations but I am determined to finsh the theme now. And ABC - it could go the same way a SW. Smaller 'memes' are more my style.
Always enjoy your harbor shots most of all, Baboosh. Thanks for all the help, tips and encouragement you've shared this year. Wishing you and yours all the best for the holiday season.
On to '09!
Happy Christmas, Brett
Most of the UK fishing industry was devastated long ago, and I feel for them now the Recession is biting too.
I like the little blue and white one on the left.
Merry Christmas!
What clear waters!!! great framing too...
The boat my son works on brings in Queenies and scallops.
Dad used to bring in lots of place, some squid and the odd monk fish.
Dear Baboo,Your blog is very educative for me so I am very often here as guest on your pages....I wish You best for Christmas holidays and many words in this Blog World
You don't know what you are missing ;-)
Merry Christmas!!
Mine.
Beautiful photo!
Merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas!
great job on the ABC. merry christmas my friend.
Hello!
I have an award for you at my blog, just to say thanks for the beautiful and interesting pictures youùve been posting! I've always wanted to visit the Isle of Man but never got round to doing it, despite living in nearby Manchester for years. Maybe I'll get the opportunity now that I live in Belgium... You do not have to acknowledge or pass on the award if you don't want to.
Cheers!
Great shot; and a pity about the pending demise of the industry. Have a nice Christmas.
Both posts, ABC and My World, are great. Merry Christmas.
I do hope business picks up for them soon. Yes, you do have different weather there, and it looks wonderful to me, rain or not. Right now our rain has turned to ice, which makes traveling rather hazardous.
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas, Babooshka!
If you want, I could send you lots of snow from Canada.
I have more than I need at the moment.
Seasons greetings from my blog to your blog.
Bear((( )))
I love this photo. All the blue really stands out. I hope you have a very Merry Christmas!!
weather here has been really nice this morning - blue sky and sun - I needed my anorak and hood but not scarf - never cared for kippers myself.
I so wish we could have some of your weather right now. It is cold and we are in the middle of yet another snow storm. We've had more snow in this month alone, than we usually get during an entire winter.
Anyway, really like the photo, especially with all the blues in it blue is my favorite color).
Merry Christmas...
Lovely pictures of the boats.
I hope that fishermen can survive.
Seasons greetings to you.
I love the way the boat on the left looks with the tide out. Who knew!
Happy Christmas!
That's a lovely picture. It reminds me of Harris (where I was on honeymoon at the beginning of this year) - there was a couple of small fishing boats like these moored near where we were staying.
Wishing you and Gary a very happy Christmas - I hope 2009 brings him more luck on the job front.
Just dropped by to wish you and yours the very best of the season.
Lovely photo. I find boat scenes like this very moody. I wouldn't mind trying scallops from your area - they're my favorite!
AWSOME!!!!!!!
Working boats, YEAH!
