This is one of those little slipways we have that links Parliament Street to the harbour side that you can see in colour by clicking a back post here. Whenever I see passageways like this I am prone to let my over active imagination run riot and believe that of course this was a secret runway for the smugglers escaping with their ill gotten gains. I have so many things I could say about bankers and taxes but I'll resist. Back to the back alley.
I took this with something called fill flash. Does what it says. Not that it was necessary just wanted a blinding light. Don't ask. Some crazy idea I had at the time about obscuring the image before I reveal it's secrets to you. Anyway let's carry on up the back passage. Into the bright light you can see over the road to a white van. That is no ordinary van but a Police van. Why? The Police station is just to the right of that van. Makes sense then. Behind that van is a lovely little local shop which I'll show you soon. As you can see the alley has two different types of wall.I have noticed a lot of the back ways have walls of differing styles. Each wall is the side of a local business. We will have to take a look at those sometime soon too. If you peer very closely you can see the Christmas lights strewn across the sky. Yes I did say Christmas lights. They stay up, but stay off until Christmas. A little gritty image today.Realism.
I hope you enjoyed wandering around my back passage virtually, anyway.

B, I totally get this and I'm American. My cousin is from Boston UK and he introduced me to Benny Hill and Carry On films. Kenneth Williams is my favorite. LOLxx

Pam- I did think the innuendo might pass some by as Carry On Films are so British. Boston, Lincolnshire is lovely part of the world.
What may I ask, (steering well away from any attempt to plunge further into the language mire) would any self respecting smuggler be doing using a passage opposite the police station?

Bitingmidge- I like your thinking. I can get round this by saying the Police Station was built after the alley. Of course this may not be true, but hell it's my short story. Just call it more Manx myth. Bent coppers in Ramsey? Now that would be a blog post.
To add to the smugglers theme you are not far off the mark. As a Manxman who can trace their family back 7 generations, smuggling was shall we say, a family occupation in Port St Mary. You may want to pursue this.

That's a pretty tight squeeze. You wouldn't be able to smuggle anything larger than a bread box.
Your imagination does run wild! Though I expect some scoundrels have snuck down the alley to escape being spotted. Thanks for your comment on our new grandson. My daughter and her husband have done a pretty good job of raising his older brother (almost 3)to be a happy one. I expect the same for Lewis.

I love your back alley! We have similar narrow passages in a town near us, built in mediaeval times.

ee lass thou hast a way with words - loved it all - can see Sid James eyeing it all up but would Barbara have managed to squeeze through? - it looks quite narrow.
Using fill flash to create backlighting? Seems a bit counter-intuitive to me... (Unless your strobe was actually a slave unit at the end of the alley that is...)
But what do I know. I'm just trying to stay well clear of all the back-passage talk lest I become the butt of a joke I don't get. (Oh, you had to know I couldn't pass that one up didn't you?)
This kind of shot is right up my alley (no pun intended). I love scenes like this... and in fact, I'm a big fan of narrow back alleys.
