Come fly with me
Critters Sunday
Critters Sunday
One from the harbour again. I think this is the young Great cormorant who is no longer such a youngster. When I've shown these birds in the past so many of you say you aren't familiar with them as they do tend to be shore birds although they are becoming more adaptable to inland haunts apparently. In fact until I moved to Ramsey I confess I had never seen one in the flesh either. When we first came here we spotted just the pair of cormorants now there is a a complete family fishing and flying the waters of Ramsey Harbour. Majestic birds expert divers can go to great lengths but usually find they shallow dive for surface fish. Often you see one dive and resurface about 50ft away down stream with or without it's supper. As you can see they have quite a wingspan too and always tend to fly in short low bursts along the harbour. For more info click here for a great wiki round up.

The new laptop has finally arrived. Just getting to grips with it. The screen is a little too bright and lacking in red tones I've noticed so I may have to re calibrate it. This image maybe a little small as I'm getting used to the screen size as well. Bit hit and miss tonight. So finally will be able to make a start on the website and re file all the images. Now if I can just find that elusive escaped wild wallaby of Ramsey and a Manx Fairy for critters that would be fantastic. For more critters of the world click Misty Dawn.

Great action shot!
I played too :)
Love it!!!!!
Great shot. My camera critter last week was a cormorant too. They are beautiful creatures. Have a wonderful weekend.
A beautiful photo with dramatic lighting.
Fascinating bird in flight! Almost has the wings of an eagle!
Babooshka: I do have cormorants on the lake I fish but not the same kind.
All my critter captures in the back yard are city creatures.
congrats on your new laptop!
Nice cormorant photo!
That's a great shot of your Cormorant. The first time I ever saw one was when I went to the Everglades a few years back. They were a wonderful bird. I didn't realize they were in GB too but it's only in the last few years that I have become more into birding. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Much appreciated. Would you mind telling me the name of the one you mentioned from the Midlands? Do you by any chance have a link to it? Thanks. Congratulations on the laptop. Takes a while to get used to a new one I know.
Very nice! I guess he didn't want to be a star. :)
Have fun with the new laptop!
Nice picture of the cormorant. Very dramatic. Thanks.
Nice picture of the cormorant. Very dramatic. Thanks.
I remember your other flying cormorants. Don't get those here. Powerful image.
Funny, I thought they were Florida or at least tropical birds. We see them all over and they're much fun to watch - as you say, dive and end up 50 yards away.
Nice photo.
Fantastic shot!!
Glad your laptop finally got there!!
Cormorants are cool. I used to watch them along the Columbia River in Washington.
Glad you got the new laptop.
Love the sparkle off his feathers. B,this is gorgeous. What a beautiful bird!!!

Thanks so much for the link, so nice of you to get back to me. I do appreciate it :)))
That's nice action capture. Cormorants are aplenty where we hail from, and we laze in the river along with them.
its like the great flight captured !
soooper pic !
Beautiful photo of a cormorant in flight.
Enjoy your new laptop!
haha, love the 'here, there and everywhere', big smile. Had not seen those beautiful photos before either. Did not know you then ;-)
There are cormorants in a nature reserve close to our home. They have a favourite dead tree that pops up out of a lake that was created to bring back nature. You can always see some cormorants (we call them aalscholvers) sitting in that tree.
A great in-flight shot! :)
Enjoy your new latop!
Superb, but how did you come to be above it?
Thanks for all the info and images of the cormorant.. yes I don't know much about it. Fascinating. Good luck finding the walleby and Manx Fairy. I would love to see them.

Great action shot and lovely framing/composition.
Dave = I'm standing on the harbour docks which sould be slightly above the eyeline of the cormomorant flight path.
Awesome shot! We get a lot round here that fish in the old gravel pits that are now inland lakes. They sit in the tree tops and dry their wings off after fishing!
great shot

Beautiful pic!
Always beautiful.
Great, great shot!
Beautiful shot! We have them in the Netherlands as well, they are beautiful. I saw them also in Australia, but they were the little black cormorants. Thanks for sharing and also for visiting my fig tree, which, however, never blooms I am afraid. I added another photo to show how enormous this tree is.
Nice pic! Glad to hear that your laptop woes are about over as well!
Great light in this fine image, Babooshka. Congrats on your new computer: I imagine it's very fast, isn't it?
Awesome capture!!!
Congrats on the new laptop.
Cool flapping wings. Great capture. Have a blessed Day.

HI!
Wonderful Photo! I haven't seen them before but have seen them on t.v. They are great divers of fish! Thanks for stopping by my place. Have a great evening!

Great midflight capture!
Great action shot!
Hi Babooshka,
Wonderful post as always! I like the darker undertones in this.
So sorry for not getting here till now.
I bet this bird is a better fisherman than I!!
Great capture as usual... and a very well written post to accompany it.
How's the laptop... are you getting used to the noisy thing?
