Manannan is skywatching

Celtic magic, not manipulation

I cannot take this torrential rain much longer so you get another of those spectacular sunsets from last year. Before those that don't know and ask, yes that is natural, no filters, and no manipulation. It is what it is a bewitching multi coloured sunset over the island. We get some stunners here, but only ones like this rarely.Could it be Manannan and a little Celtic magic or those Manx fairies on the loose with the paintbox. Don't know, don't care, but it's far more appealing than the hellish grey water sodden skies we have had through out the week, and I know which one I'd rather have.

I mention the Celts as along with the Vikings remember the island has those very deep Pagan roots. Don't forget the vampire hunter I met here too (place is apparently crawling with them) the Fenodyree, and how you have to say hello to the fairies when crossing Fairy bridge. Also my own bit of witchcraft with encouraging wild injured birds to sit on my hand. Well when I look at that sky I can believe that Mannanan has lifted his cloak here and weaving a little Manx magic. On the other hand, I just got lucky one night. Now if I can just get to photograph those vampires, fairies and ghosts that haunt the island I'd make a bloody fortune.

Other bewitching skies can be seen here . Hopefully the rain will stop and I can photograph tomorrow, those modern day Vikings, the bikers.

Gorgeous and spectacular as always, Babooshka! And oh how I know how you are feeling about the gray skies! We're getting close to that time here and I'm already dreading the loss of color!

Stay dry!

I always like thinking about how ancient people like the Celts and Vikings saw and watched the same sun and moon that we do - it brings them a little closer.

I hope to bring you vampires too but alas they are in hiding.

Ha! Faerie magic is not dispensed upon just anyone, as far as I'm concerned!

That is an amazing sky.

P.S. Who was it that "photographed" the faeries? Conon Doyle or Yeats or someone like that.

April said...

Very dramatic sunset and a most amazing sky! Hope you get some relief soon from all the rain.

Jane Hards Photography said...

Pagan - It was Conan Doyle. He was totally convinced they were real. Of course we do have real ones here.

I'd suggest baking cupcakes for the fairies and leaving them out as an offering. Perhaps they'll agree to be photographed. Or at least pull the clouds aside for you.

Ironic that in your part of the world, you hope for the rain to stop and where I live here in California, we hope it will start, so that the whole state doesn't burn up, especially this season each year.
We'll occasionally get a sky like this, but only a very few times per year... very beautiful and well worth stopping by.. thanks for sharing:)

We have deep red sunsets here too, (upstate, NY) I posted one a while back and hoped everyone would believe just how real those colors were! They're so incredible!

gorgeous! I've never seen a celtic sunset like that, speaking of the celts, my great great grandmother hailed from Monaghan, Ireland. She was a McKenna, lately I've been researching the family tree on her side and the celts sort of make me feel like there's something inside me that can relate.
