Keeirid is another one of those Manx words. Twighlight to you or dusk. No prizes for guessing I was deep in the woods to get that shot. Where else. Has been a while since we had a Manx word but as I ran into Adrain Cain today, The Manx Language Development Officer, in the big city (now don't laugh Douglas is big compared to Ramsey) and thought why not have one or two tonight. So there you go. Cain by the way is a proper homegrown Manx surname.
Just for a change I will shut up and leave you with some new words to drop into conversation sometime. There you go it's not everyday you can speak a new language. Well you can if it is dusk to dawn. Don't tell the Vampire Hunter though. She might get the wrong idea.
keeiragh - dusky, darkish, twilight, gloaming, nightfall, evening twilight
keeiragh (ny hoie) - dusk
keeiragh yn laa - daylight
keeiraghey ny hoie - nightfall
keeiraght - blackishness, nightfall, twilight
keeiraght ny h-oie - evening just before dark
keeiraght yn laa - break of day
keeirid - twilight, dusk

I am tongue tied trying to say all those k words!!!
Do you give lessons? I'd love to learn how to say them! Great shot! And thanks for the list.
Have a great day, Babooshka!

You do pose some difficult posts - just the kind of words to casually drop into a conversation with my wife over dinner (which I usually make) :-)
Oh no,no,no not I. Adrian does though. The Manx language is going through a revival at the moment. I'll have to drop a few more words onto the blog now.
Can we borrow some K words from you we've so few in French.
Keeiragh sounds like a useful word for someone who likes to be out at keeiragh to catch the very last moments of light with my camera.
Thanks for the language lesson!
Whatever language you say it in, that photo is gobsmackin' gorgeous!
*applause*
This picture of dusk is very beautiful. I like the colours against the dark sky. I am learning many K words today and all those K words here are new to me.
I need your voice pronouncing these 'k's for us. Or maybe Adrain's. I also need to be in those beautiful woods under that twilight sky with the branches tangling my hair.
kor these are my kind of words if only I kud pronounce them.
What an outstandingly beautiful picture. I just love it!
what a wonderful pic! love it!
Beautiful picture, and interesting K words, - but how to pronounce them?
I can't quite seem to get my tongue around those words but its a fascinating choice for the letter K. Always fun to come here and have my brain scrambled a bit....
Lovely sounds!
I have no idea how to pronounce them, but they look like beautiful words!
I love languages but am stymied as to how to pronounce those words. Very interesting, though. :D
Original post! Being somewhat of a linguist myself, I too would like to see how the words are prounounced--can you write some sort of phonetic transcription? :)
gorgeous keeirid shot!
gorgeous keeirid shot!
yeah, I'd like a phonetic guide, if you kan, I mean can.
So good to learn some new words in a different language. I wonder how many people speak Manx . . .
Great keeirid (How on earth do you pronounce it)
I know some Manx words still. Good to see you back. Like to see more Manx words sometime.
I need help with the pronounciation! (did i spell it right?!)
Great photo btw :)
My brain hurts! Lovely to see an old language like Manx being given its rightful attention though, and being kept alive for future generations.
