Peer at the Pier
September Theme Day Big, My world
September Theme Day Big, My world
Has it been a month already since our last theme day. It appears so. As I reside in a teenie tiny town beside the seaside, which I do like to be by I had little option but to choose, the bridge, the beach or the pier for the image of big. Not my usual lateral thinking involved today for the theme, play it straight down the line with a simple long shot towards the horizon with the illusion of the pier going on forever and cutting through the sky. I have already used the pun from"from pier to eternity before" so I won't say it again. Oops just have. Went for a black and white today too which suits the aging old queen, the pier that is.
You may have noticed I have been awol again from the blog, well net in general. It has rained everyday since my return from hols and no way does my camera go out and play in a down pour. More than two raindrops and the merest hint off a breeze seems to affect the server too. I kid you not it's been hellish here and I will be using archives for a while as I realky have no places of interest to show you inside. Not unless I do a pub tour of course. Well if you really want me too....

Is it me or has this been the most dreadful UK Summer?

Oh, I'll take a pub tour!! And you always have great shots! Regardless of the weather. Living in Washington, I do know about gray weather although we have had a very lovely summer -- which is almost over and the weather reports don't look promising. Ah, well!
Enjoy???
Sylvia
That pier seems to go on for ever.
I love the way you shot the old queen. Very atmospheric.
That queen has a long train, indeed. As for digging into the archive or taking us on a pub tour...I'll take either, thank you very much.
A pub tour sounds like a great idea! I haven't done that in ears and years! Love this monochrome and smiled at your zany comments! Good fun!
The sandbags are out but the rain has stopped. Tomorrow's racing going ahead, I think.
Cheers Lou for the update but I will not be photographing the bikes anyway, got to be elsewhere. That is if we have not been washed up the other side of the world of course.
Night all.
Too much rain is not too much of a good thing, it leads to serious depression in my book! (Just a note, I posted a bridge picture this time.....)
Personally, I think the pier has BIG personality. So there, you cleared the theme.
I get envious when people talk about all the rain they have been having all summer long.
Three years and no "real" rainfall to speak of around here; hence the wildfires are starting.
A pub tour would be great, Babooshka. Meanwhile, the pier does seem to go on forever. I like the B & W mood.
That's a BIG pier! Huge! Loooooong! Does it reach all the way to England?! Great BIG theme day snap!
Love that you photographed the pier in black and white -- suits it! (I think everyone's summer has been weird.)
Okay, if you insist on the pub tour...but only if I can tag along and sample the brews. :-)
Excellent shot of the old Queen.
Count me in for the pub tour. I"ll have a bourbon and club soda on ice, s'il vous plait.

Babooshaka: I love the look of thet big pier. It is neat in B&W.
The pier does appear to go on forever.
Pub tour sounds fun, if the weather insists.
That's a lovely B&W photo of teh pier. Oh my, it's september already.
Excellent capture for BIG. Does look like the pier goes on forever into the sea. Plus B&W suits the current weather conditions.
I'd love a pub tour. That's not something I see anyday.
It goes on & on & on...it's BIG.
another structure I cannot get enough of seeing from any and every angle.
I like the neverending pier and would like to walk and see what is there, at the other end.
Beautiful B&W. The pier towards infinite.
I'd like so much to see some images of pubs.
I think we've had worse summers - this year though it has been so changeble from one to t'next.
great shot along the pier
It looks exactly as you describe...
A pub crawl would be interesting, I am sure beyond the glass there would be some artefacts...lol
This IS one big bridge. I like this bw.
Is the Grand Prix on today?
Sorry I mean will there be any races?
Thanks.
Brilliant photo of the pier. LOL at the pub tour. I'm tt and my first day in the UK my boss whose a good friend of my hubby, took me to 21 pubs in Chesterfield. Actually "On the Brim" Brimington. I have never drank so many club sodas and cups of coffee in my life. thanks for visiting my blog. Good to have you back.
That's one BIg beautiful pier, Babooshka. Hope you enjoyed your time in south-west France?
well the old pier seems to gon forever so it qualifies for the theme. Pub crawling---sure. MB
I peered and peered and peered... but didn't see the end of it! It really is big!!
I am glad you are back. I hope you had a nice relaxing holiday!
This is a fantastic photo, Babooshka! The pier looks immense from here.
I vote for the pub tour! :D
I love that pier, and this take on it.
What a lovely walk out over the water and into the middle distance.
I like your B&W treatment too.
Love the pier shot. I'd be happy with the pub tour.
I'll throw in my lot with the lot that votes for a pub tour. Seeing the Swan from the inside might prove interesting after all. Surely the Manx can keep up with the Irish for atmosphere... or the English at least.
Piers like this (you might have noticed) are some of my favorite subjects, and I love this one. You might say it's "Pierless Beauty" (you can thank me later... I'll trade ya for "From Pier to Eternity" and we'll call it a day, yeah?).
Is it me or does that water look awfully shallow in the foreground? Low tide there must be taken quite literally!
Really great photo!
It's been a while hasn't it Babooshka(?) since you were in Birmingham?
When you planning a visit?
Love those pubs.
as always, drop dead gorgeous photo. great choice for theme day.
Very good photo for theme. I like it!
A pub tour sounds like a great idea!
The difference of mood between the color photos and this B/W shot of the pier is amazing!
Great shot, Babooshka. That pier really does seem to go on for ever. Pity you didn't have a member of the Upper House in the shot. Then we could peer at the peer on the pier. Look forward to pictures of your night at the pub for your next My World contribution, then...?
Janice.
That is a fab photo for theme day. I'd be happy enough for a photographic pub crawl :)
Love it!!!!
I think I've never seen such a long pier!
That's a big pier! Nice realisation of the theme, B.
Like it in B&W suits the greyish Summer..
The Pub tour looks good to me!!
That is one looonnng pier! I wonder if we'll have the same sort of summer here? Our last one was awful - so hot and humid.
It seems to wrap around the world. Nice play with perspective.
Great subject to photograph
