RESCUED GOLDFINCH - CRITTERS

Keep your cats away from me!

Critters

When in doubt get the bird shots out!

Not a chaffinch or a siskin on my hand this week, but a goldfinch. That would be a European Goldfinch, or as I prefer to call them our little masked raiders. You should see the way we have a group, or a"charm of goldfinches" as they are called correctly attacking the bird feeders. What about this archive image though?

This is a little male goldfinch I rescued from a very naughty cat. Not one of the critters cats I will no doubt see. He'd got a paw to the little birdie, swatted him like a fly bringing the poor bird to the ground. I just ran at he cat(as you do) to scare him off. A mad woman screeching at him like a howling Banshee in a whilrling dervish soon did the trick. I picked this little bird up as gently as I could and tried to coax him round. Eventually he had a bite of the seeds and kindly posed for this photo, before flying off with no lasting damage. I do think he looks a little grumpy on this image. There again if I had been squatted mid flight bounced on the floor and then been subjected to posing for a photo I think I might look a little p""""d off too.

Another lovely collection of goldfinches can be found at the lovely Wigger's World along with a variety of other cuties.

For more camera critters see Misty dawn's den.

Scheduled post I'm out and about.

Go out the sun is shining!

Gee, I'm first! This is a cute little guy. I think the US goldfinches I knew as a child are yellow and black, but maybe that was a misnomer. Anyway, I'm glad this one got away!

cute pic. there is probably a very disappointed and hungry cat that is still lurking around. wish we had some of that sun here, but think i will still go outside. peace.

Oh well done you! I'm sure the goldfinch felt happier towards you than he looked. I hate and love cats - they should all wear bells on their collars to give any unsuspecting wildlife a chance.

You're a hero to this little goldfinch. What a pretty critter!

I like cats but we expressly don't own any because we love the birds more.

A sweet little fellow. Poor thing in the clutches of a cat.

This is a call to everyone to please step outside the right vs. left paradigm. While there are important issues worth debating within this paradigm, all of them will be moot if we do not focus on a much greater issue outside this paradigm. Thomas Jefferson warned of wealth concentrating to such an extent that it threatened the state. Nowadays the media has taught us all very well to ridicule anyone who talks of central banks usurping the power of government. Well now I suppose the media will have to laugh at themselves, as many outlets from Newsweek to the Financial Times of London are openly discussing the creation of a "bank of the world" that will control economic policies of every nation. I invite you to watch this video, which details how this is currently taking place. While it focuses on our current officials' cooperation with these plans, it steps out of the typical political paradigm by highlighting the cooperation of both parties. Please do not look to politicians to protect us. Only we can protect us. And our first step must be to reach out to police and military. Without their cooperation, the global elite won't have the muscle to exercise their will of oppression. Please share this oath-keepers blog with them.

Well done my dear ;-)
'There again if I had been squatted mid flight bounced on the floor and then been subjected to posing for a photo I think I might look a little p""""d off too' that cracked me up. Thanks for the laugh.

I have cats and I have birds and a squirrel and I am constantly grabbing the cats and throwing them in the house. I love my birds, but I also love my cats. Just wish they lived well together.

Adrienne Zwart said...

Oh, well done Babooshka. I hate it when cats chase birds. I know they can't help themselves, but I'm glad your little goldfinch survived and was able to fly away.

Beautiful little Finch, love the coloring!

Cats, they look so innocent lying there on the couch. Inside...deadly predator. Nice that you saved the prey.
I'm late to the party, but HAPPY BLOGOVERSARY! I enjoy your posts very much.

Crabby bird probably was why it survivied. Lovely shot. I can never get close enough to birds for shots as good as this.

Sure glad you rescued the poor little guy.
The American Goldfinch is the state bird of Washington where I live. A different bird---both beautiful. MB

lovely pic and very funny story x

This guy does look cautious about the situation he has found himself in... the seed is far to tempting, but a feathered beauty must keep a sharp eye out for any danger... I'll keep my cats away from you... don't worry ;)

I'd say you win the gold today...in anyone's contest.

Babooshka: Very nice capture of the finch, ours over in the USA are so different.
I don't know if you have Muskrat but that is what I showed.

Nice shot. I have something very interesting for you. Recently I was reading a traffic engineering article and I found this:
"The Isle of Man is the only place in the world that does not have a general speed limit."
Is it true?

Jim Klenke said...

Good for you to rescue him. I have outdoor cats who are always chasing birds.

I'm so laughing at Townboy's wording! :)

Lovely little bird! You did a lovely little thing in saving him.

Baboosh to the rescue! Good job!

We have goldfinches who sometimes hit the window. I run outside to see if they are still alive and then put them where the cats can't catch them if they are only stunned. Hooray for bird rescuers!

Michele said...

Yay, you saved it!!♥ It's a cutie!!

Great Babooshka! That's a good deed!

Good save! S/he is very pretty with the orange markings. I think he looks a bit bewildered too but glad he's off flying. It's a constant rain here.. no sunshine today. Don't worry that doesn't stop me from walking.. hee hee. My Mom doesn't want me to get cabin fever

George TB - That comment made me laugh too.

Meead- There are certain parts of the Island where this is no speed limit like the mountains. Strange you should cfind this article.

If you think the bird looks annoyed, imagine the look the cat must've had. A perfectly executed midair knockdown gone to waste!

And I'd have done the same thing. Good on ya!
