Monochrome odd shots
I pass this place almost daily and without fail I have a compulsion to look at it. It's the shop for Ramsey Bakery. Yes we make our own bread and cakie things here. Shame this shop is now closed though and you can't buy the bread here. Has been closed for sometime, long before the credit crunch. Don't get me started on this subject of wasted property in Ramsey. Bakery products can still be found throughout the island, like the supermarket opposite this empty shell, but just a little sad that a"local shop for local people" no longer has this outlet. Always had yummy looking cakes to catch the eye in the window too. Left with a yummy looking building instead.
I'll show you the colour another time which always reminds me of a certain painter and doesn't look at all creepy. I'm sure some of you will already can already visualise the colours by that comment. That one really needs to be photographed on a bright sunny day. Same place in black and white and a cloudy place always strikes me as odd. Surely I'm not the only one who sees a sort of manic grimace to the facade and those soulless window eyes following you round. Amityville Ramsey style. Another thing is why are the blinds drawn on a empty shop? In fact why are there even blinds? A Hammer Horror for another day and my over active imagination.Monochrome odd shots

How come I live here and see what you see but don't really see it! It is spooky!
Sad to see these bakeries close down. Many of our smaller bakeries have closed well before this economic mess. I guess people are settling for that bland, tasteless chemical sponge bread mass produced and sold in the super marts. Last April, wife and I found ourselves in Paris-bread heaven. You just can't duplicate that smell and taste from mass producing machinery.
Reminds me, I need to bake more bread tomorrow. Say, maybe I could purchase that bakery...providing it's next to nothing.
It is sad when local businesses have to close. I like the stark quality of this shot.

I always feel sad when a good shop closes...there's a bakery in Minneapolis that we've patronized for fifty years, and it shut down just recently...like losing an old friend.
I think the B&W makes the story more dramatic, and the sky, with a threatening appearance, racks it up another notch.
I can hear the music in the background...the swish of drums and the plaintive sound of a tenor sax...
That's interesting. Your right.. there is a grimace a bit creepy and the clouds add quite the backdrop.

Unfortunately that must be a kind of fashion in whole Europe to close down little shops and built more and more supermarkets. It's exactly the same here too and it is so difficult for people who can't drive or who are too old to get used to these shopping monsters !

Some houses indeed looks like faces. I haven't thought of seeing how they compare in colour versus b & w, but I have some on my disc somewhere that it might be worth while trying out.

Ramsey Bakery never scared me, it does now.
Me again - I forgot to add that the dummy was standing far out in the street from the shop I suppose it belonged to - which ever it was.
So the supermarket giant got that little bakery as well? I read the first paragraph and was thinking that it would be a nice building to renovate into a house - and then the second paragraph made me totally change my mind.
As I might have said before - they call it 'progress'.

I know what you mean! We have two bakeries in this little village of ours and if you enter their shops you can smell the smell of freshly baked bread. While in the supermarket everything has the same smell.
How sad that it's gone under and all you're left with is a mass market chain.
That's one of the things I love most about my neighborhood - while there are big chain stores on the edge of town it's still full of small shops where they know you, know your kids and what they like best, and are quick with a favor when you need it - whether it's a hand with your parcels or letting you take a full wagon's worth of produce home even when you've stupidly left your credit card behind, because they know you'll be back with it the next day. My local pharmacy will even run medicines over to my home (just around the corner) when I'm stuck home with a sick child.
Fortunately the bakery next to that pharmacy doesn't deliver - for that we actually have to go ourselves. Good thing too, I'd be big as a house otherwise LOL.
I wonder how Ramsey bread tastes like... Good subject for your mono!

It seems more and more local shops are falling to the big box stores. We still have a few here though.
Looking at it the way you explained it, yes, Babooshka, I watch an awful grimace, with a tight lipped mouth !
Regular customers must make the same grin.
That's the city life that is disapprearing with these little shops, of course. Like it is even in our big cities where little food shops are replaced by cellular telephone shops, or real estate (wonder if they heard about crisis ?)
A god bakery is a need !

Bakeries abound here, but the good ones are fewer and fewer in number. Tendency seems to be for loaves to be like what my mother calls, "light and windy".
Yes, it's very sad to see small businesses close. We once had a wonderful bakery in our village too. They made the best cheddar bread imaginable. Ah, the memories!
as long as you can get your daily freshly baked bread (and not that bake-off supermarket trash), i dont think it matters where it comes from
My grandparents always bought their bread at a local bakery. Now I'm thinking my mom told me recently they shut down. I remember walking home from school and stopping their along the way for a donut.
Anxious to see this in color.

They say when one door closes another one opens... we can hope for the best in any circumstance and this little building certainly deserves that :-) It's a wonderful, thought provoking shot!

As long as you're in a questioning mood, why not find out why the blinds are not drawn down to the same level on both sides? That bothers me ... I want symmetry ... and fresh bread -:)

A shame, as I'm sure it was a popular shop in its time. I bet it will be sold and turned into a holiday home or something.

I like your sky watch photo...and the emerald green. This bakery is neat. The only decent one on this side of the Island I'm on closed too! The economy is worse than ever though we were way ahead in this area-
