ABC WEDNESDAY - Z IS FOR ZEN , SUCH A PERFECT DAY

  • Zen is more of an attitude than a belief.
  • Zen is the peace that comes from being one with an entity other than yourself.
  • Zen means being aware of your oneness with the world and everything in it.
  • Zen means living in the present and experience this reality fully.
  • Zen means being free of the distractions and illusory conflicts of the material world.
  • Zen means being in the flow of the universe.
  • Zen means experiencing fully the present, and delighting in the basic miracle of life itself.
Now, the interpretation of Zen is subjective. As it's the last one this round, I thought a little lateral thinking was required. For me I just wanted to illustrate what it meant to me incorporating all of the above, from my spiritual, religious, human standpoint etc and a time when I felt all or most of the above and usually for me it's through music. So please accept this offering in the spirit of the post, and in no way is it meant to belittle or denigrate any one's beliefs.

The Lou Reed concert At the Douglas Marina, Isle of man, was one of my all time Zen moments. A Perfect Day. For me this the perfect example of a group of very diverse people, putting, politics, race, religion aside and being caught up in the moment of pure musical euphoria. You can call it escapism, and maybe it is but for me live music, especially by one of the all time greats is a slice of heaven, or being at one with the world, point of fact my own slice of Zen.

An excellent, thought provoking post for the last letter of this round. I agree with you that it is often something like live music that makes us all forget our differences, and celebrate our likenesses. A great zen moment. Or, as I would say, spiritual.

See you next week on A! Thanks for your comments at mine.

I would have experienced a Zen moment had I been able to attend! Thanks for this post.

I recognized him instantly. Your portrait seems to catch him united with his guitar - that expression.

Thanks for the info about zen. Truth be told, I am a bit confused about what the word means at first!

My Z picture is posted HERE.

Do drop by if you have time, I would appreciate it very much!

Every time I try to use the word "zen" in a word game or puzzle, it states it's not a word. Maybe it's a proper noun and you're not allowed to use proper nouns in these games. Love your post! :D

this is weird, I was just thinking of Lou Reed today, remembering the time I saw his girlfriend (at the time) in Manhattan one summer at a woman's action coalition meeting. Then I pondered whether they are still together.( a quick google search revealed they recently wed) Then I opened your post to his photo. It may seem random, but it is more proof to me that we are all connected in some zen like way!
I confess I don't know his music, but after reading your post I am going to investigate.

Terrific post.

I was wondering who that was! It is true that music can bring all sorts of very differrent people together and carry us away out of ourselves.

Very interesting post.

I'll have to take your word for the Zen moment. These things don't work for me.
Good entry though.

Thanks for the link back to mine. When I saw your armchair I had to laugh, as I'd only taken my armchair picture a couple of days earlier.

I've had the pleasure of having many friends who follow the principles of zen... We even have a peaceful zen center here in Marin County, Californa -- I've never been there, but if I ever need a little insight, I know it's there...

Great idea for Z and very informative. I love those moments when everything seems to disappear and you can be one with the world.

Thank you for your kind thoughts on my post. My husband is a geologist and I study planetary sciences in the geology department, so I have the great opportunity to learn about my surroundings. Its a lot of fun :)

I know that you have received the Arte Y Pico Award from somebody else, but I hope you don't mind receiving it again from me. Your blog was one of the blogs that came to mind when I received the award and had to pass it on to others.

Ahhh Lou Reed! It's tough growing up with that last name. The kids always taunted Marie Reed reads I book! I guess it could have been worse:)

Good choice for "Z"
I once saw Lou Reed in the flesh at our gym in New York -a big thrill! Couldn't stop staring like an idiot......
But I am old enough to remember the Velvet Underground from 1967/8
