Remains of the day
One from the archives. The Poyll Dooey Nature Reserve. Dying embers of the evening sky. No street light, purer colours. Bit of peace and quiet in a noisy world.

Ramsey Rocks, sunset
Street party
Ramsey Rocks, I've mentioned before is a annual event that takes place in the town along the harbour quayside each July. For one night only, bands, kids entertainment, food stalls etc are out in force. Except this year. This year was a washout, and cancelled due the inclement weather. The image of a full town turnout resplendent with sunset, was, unfortunately last year. Oh well, what's another year to wait. The local pubs however did a roaring trade as many of the bands played indoors and those already out for the festivities made their way there too, minus the kids.

Derby Road, Ramsey, Isle of Man - Sunset
Mirror image
Skywatch this week, a dusky pink serene scene. Mirror image reflections along the harbour inlet, Derby Road, looking towards Bowring Road. The sun rises over the beach, and sets inland, always casting a myriad of colurs over the harbour inlet, Sulby river and buidlings. No two days are the same, which is great for a photographer on a night time walk.
To see a sizzling orange fiery sunset of the same view see here. You'll see what I mean about the colours of the setting sun. Unreal, yet natural.
Skywatch images around the world by others can be seen here.

Ramsey Rocks, Ramsey National Week
Summer Nights
Next week on the Isle of Man is Ramsey National Week and the image above is from the annual festival, Ramsey Rocks which takes place down by the harbour quayside. Local bands, family fun, food stalls and kids entertainment. If it rains, there is always the pub. Several pubs in fact. Possibly the busiest night out in the town, or at least one of them. Fingers crossed for sunshine hoping for sunshine.

Queens Drive West, Sunset
Remains of the day
Ramsey isn't the best place on the Isle of Man for sunsets, (we fair better for sunrises) but we do have our fair share of colourful evenings. In the opposite direction to this image, you could capture the moon. Spoiled for photographic opportunities tonight.

The Swan
Bird's eye view
This week my Skywatch image is a place familiar to readers of the blog from the early days, The Swan Pub. A large public house situated on the corner of Lezayre Road and Parliament Square, a regular drinking hole for locals and a one Isle of Man TT tourists will recognize as a place to watch the motorbikes race round the route through Ramsey. Sunset, optional, pint and pub lunch compulsory, karaoke depends on who is singing.

Balck and white, harbour sunset
View from the pub
The colours were amazing stunning spectacular and all those adjectives some people use to describe their photos, when it should be for the viewer to decide. Stripped of colour, Ramsey Harbour, view from outside the oneof the many pubs of the town. Not a bad pint, and not a bad view either, even if it lack colour for some.

Silhouettes and sunsets
Hometime
Looking onto the town from the beach at a sunset, from my office. Not my office window, my office. The beach, from dawn to dusk is my place of work, photography. Standing ankle deep in a freezing cold the Irish Sea, waiting for the setting or rising sun may not be a conventional way to make a living but it's one enjoy. Hope you enjoy the view too.

Poyll Dooey Sunset
Chasing the light
One of my favourtie places in Ramsey, Isle of Man, the Poyll Dooey Nature reserve. Summer evenings, chasing the last golden embers or pink flushes of the setting sun. Winter evenings, still chasing the sun, but with the added bonus of leaf less trees, making striking silhouettes. A haven of peace out side of the town, yet only a minute or two walk form the main high street. Great place for dog walkers, nature lovers, and of course photographers.

After the workers, fisherman mainly, have gone home or to the pub, the stillness of the evening along the harbour. The boats are moored, and the sun sets on another day.

Sunset blues
My office
The sun rises over the sea, so Ramsey is better for seascape sunrises as it lies on the east coast. On the other hand, if you don't mind getting your feet wet, the inland sunsets can be just as colourful fading over the town. I don't mind getting feet wet, though I do mind having to buy new footwear at an alarming rate. Saltwater, not good for shoes. View captured on my trusty Nikon D7000, in the place I call my office as I do most of my seascape work photography from. I can think of worse views.
For more of the Isle of Man views (little island in the middle of the Irish Sea I call home) go to Jane Hards Photography

Karaoke and sunsets
View from the pub
Shot from the doorway of one the local pubs, The Stanley, looking towards Bowring Road. The bonus of taking a camera out to capture the Friday night sing songs of karaoke nights and shenanigans, the flaming orange sunsets of summer. Or the summer showers. Either way, all good fun

Take out for dinner, sunset for dessert
Home time
Parliament street, looking towards the Swan and Central pubs, where the sun is setting in the distance. Home time. Take out dinner. It's Friday. The chip shop is full. The pubs will be fuller soon. It's life, in a small town, like any other, just with better skies.
(I don't always have a camera with me, Terry, I just always run into you when I have one.)

Harbour sunset
Sundown
I photograph the local rugby team home games on Saturdays. As the game is played over the Autumn through to Spring, the light is fading fast as the nights draw in towards the end of the game. The walk home through the park and onto the harbour inlet at this time of year coincides with the setting sun and occasionally the last embers of a fading sunset, cloud cover and evening light allowing. It's a working harbour, as you can see by the silhouetted cranes and sail masts. Win lose or draw, always a sunset to focus on. Rugby in hail storm photos

Ramsey, Beach Sunset
Wet feet time
Like an explosion in a paint factory. In a troubled world, nothing better than to spend a day on the beach with a camera. I am lucky to live here, a small island in the middle of the Irish Sea. Not much happens that will affect the world, just day to day life and we like it that way.

My partner is a UK Political Cartoonist, Gary Barker Cartoons and this week I am thankful he can work here with this view, observing the troubled world through his paintbrush and not be in the midst of it.

Tomorrow is another day
The remains of the day
Northern skies on the Isle of Man can be dreary grey washouts, or cinematic Gone with the Wind sunsets bursting with colour. To be honest even the washout greys can be moody and atmospheric. Silhouetted building, one of the suburban parts of Ramsey, May Hill Road, leading out of town.
Image part of Skywatch, where other skies around the world can be seen.
Have a good weekend folks, and happy skywatching.

Northern Sunset over The Northern Swimming Pool

The the curved silhouette building, The Northern Swimming Pool, otherwise known to locals as the new swimming pool. Though it's a couple of years old now, it will always be the new swimming pool, and the old swimming pool, now converted into a bowling alley will always remain the old place to take an indoor dip.Very modern in design and interior, located between the harbour inlet and Mooragh Promenade boasting a terrific sea view. Fortunately, the pool is heated, unlike the very cold Irish Sea. Even in Summer.
Sunset over the Wave is my image for Skywatch this week. Other Skywatcher images can be found here.
More beautiful Northern Skies here, and a Nick Drake song.
