Ok I lied! No such thing as a black one. Well The Manx fairies might be hiding one in Ramsey.Obviously it's a tulip, but a tulip with a twist a study in black and white. This is me playing around with composition, textures, light and monochrome using a portrait lens.
As you can tell I am still basically housebound until this bug/flu/thingy goes away. Hence the proper stock photography shot. I hate taking flowers unless I can do them my way, like this homage to noir. This is a close to a proper lights camera action shot I will allow on this blog. After all photogenic modelling arty farty tulips are all very well but they are not downtown as it happens unrehearsed Ramsey.

Well, I like this shot. Simple and elegant. It is different being a "black" rose. Not so sue about Ikea. that store terrifies me. It is quite a rat maze turning this way and that. Crowds of people everywhere. All I want is out of stores like that.

Well I was surprised when I saw this on the portal. Didn't look typically like you but I have only been around for about 98 days tomorrow! Interesting in BW. I like seeing the different sides of all our fellow phtoographers.
I agree with Virginia, this is totally not you..but why not?...your shots are normally pretty cool and amazing! Like the biker yesterday ( really busy for comments!! but what a shot!) and so many others...
I think you got it very nice...more as monochrome.

ahh yeah I kind of agree with you about the mass prices and massive stores...although Ikea has some good prices on some prints...i wish I could sell them my artwork to be framed and offer on their stores...

i think there is a black tulip. Think its called Queen of the night, or some such thing. I love this arty shot and I can see it being used in all sorts of ways in advertising.
Oh re the cartoon..Its nice in colour but I like the B&W version best. Suits the current economy!
Hope you are felling better soon. I agree about buying the prints en mass or as an original. I think its like that with a lot of things though especially clothes. People pay top dollar for certain types of shirts or jeans, just because of the name or the store where they got them from.
Why a portrait lens?
Ikea would sell this. You should contact them. It's haunting.
So simple and yet so beautiful! Colorful tulips are great, but the black one should be real...
This is pretty. It would be nice in a series of photos to hang, like this in B&W, then center it a little more, then a little more, maybe even play with the color. I can see it in my head, just can't explain,lol.
Would look nice as a group on a wall!
Ok so I thought you meant it was going to be a bad omen or something but turns out it's not and you've just adjusted the colour on the photo - this is the problem with following and not looking at the pics!

Mirage- Are you on a site already? The market keeps changing but sunsets and landscapes are a no no. The market I staurated with them.
Tanya- I've done that with this shot a triple set and they are a prefered wall hanger.

Virgina and Barbara - This is a bog standard pro shot, rather than yes my normally quirky style. It pays better, which is why it's not ususally for the blog.
Julie - Good question. The portratit lens allows you to keep the background and the tulip in focus for this kind of shot. Wide angle would have lens distortion and the telephoto to big. Any closer, just the flower I would have gone for the macro, tripod remote for aboslute precision. Good thing about a portrait lens is it affords you the luxury of standing a pace back, hand held and you don't need to carry a tripod around. I am the world's laziest photogrpaher.
Brad-White wall or white sheet os a must. Any software progamme just desaturate all the colour. As the wall and the stem are white, this will enhance the tuilp making it appear dark charcoal or black.
