BACK DOOR SLAM

Back Door Slam
Laxey Blues Festival
When they were a baby band!

One from the archives, my own personal little olympus shots. Not a work shot, which is why it's
not a great shot. This shot is has nothing to do with photography today, but the music. So why a shot of this band today? Read on.

Back Door Slam are a blues band from the Isle Of Man. I could enthuse all day about this band, not just because they are genuine homegrown talent, but beacuse they are exceptionally talented musicians. I was lucky enough to see these lads, when they really were boys at the Laxey Blues Festival a few years back. They even jammed in a local pub afterwards. Everyone knew then these lads had something special.

This week I got an email telling me the blog had been name checked along with the band. Followed the link to guess what little old Backdoor Slam who are setting the world a light in Colarado at the Telluride Blue and Brews Festival. To see and read more about the festival check out Lisa, Telluride DP which has a great round up of festival posts. Anything in blue by the way is a link.

One day I would like to just wander into Backdoor Slam in Ramsey, take pics and publicise them on the blog. Give us a shout next time you are this way lads. I'd also like to photograph Pink Floyd, but sad news RICK WRIGHT died today aged 65 after a long battle with cancer. I really am saddened by this . Photography is a passion, a job, but music is my love affair.

Sad news indeed about Rick Wrights too early death.
Been to the Laxey Blues Festival on a number of occasions but sadly never got to see Back Door Slam who I'm told were / are brilliant live. One thing that we do have here on the island is a fantastic lot of bands performing live and I like nothing more than going along to the pubs in Ramsey to listen to these....

This counts as Laxey for me. I went to school with the guys. Great guys, really talneted. Well done for this post. They are not so known in the UK, but America loves them. Love to see how you would photograph these guys.

it's great when you get a chance to discover a band you love before it gets big, it becomes a precious recollection that you can visit time after time.

I was with Babooshka when she took this photograph. Backdoor Slam were fantastic and what makes me smile now is thinking back there couldn't have been more than thirty people at this free tent gig on the Saturday morning during the Laxey Blues Festival. The band were just starting out and by the end of that year's festival it was clear to everyone who saw them that they were going to do very well. It's just a pity they've had to go all the way to the States to be appreciated outside the Isle of Man.

They do have an island following, but it is Stateside that have gained recognition. Thanks for the BDS link.

Sad news about Rick Wright. He will be missed.

It is sad to hear of Wright's death.
Pink Floyd are great favourites with us. I read Gilmour is packing it in.
They ahev had a checkered career since The Final Cut and I lost touch, being rather put off by all the in fighting.
Great days though.

Neat to see them when they were just starting out and now they are half a world away setting it on fire.

Bummer about Rick Wright today - when the music of your generation starts losing its stars, it's quite a life check.

Great to see you showcasing some local talent, and great to hear they're starting to make it bigger.

By the way, re your comment on my Celtic Cross post - I'd absolutely love to see some Manx crosses. It would be fascinating to see how similar (or not) they are to the Celtic crosses you find in Scotland.
