ABC WEDNESDAY- O IS FOR OYSTERCATCHERS

Oystercatchers are a common site at this time of year on the island. Getting close to photograph them isn't easy though. They tend to be on the move all the time on the ground, mainly along the beach, or the harbour in large groups. Occasionally, the odd one may break from the group and be so engrossed in the the pursuit of food you can snap them. I thought I would take my chance with the fliers above. Even got a patchy blue sky. That's the clearest it's been this year. I took this yesterday. Today the weather is atrocious, as in "great weather for ducks."

If you'd like to join ABC Wednesday please got to this link MRS NESBITT'S PLACE
Mrs Nesbitt is the host for ABC Wednesday, where you can find details for joining, her own odd shot to comment on and a list of fellow bloggers who are playing today, who you can also comment on.

Have fun.

That's a wonderful mid-air photo. WE see oystercatchers on the local golf course, dipping into the soil.

That's a beautiful photo! Brilliant! To get an overhead picture like that is wonderful.

No birds ever co-operate with me - well, except for the occasional robin! I have to resort to very sneaky behaviour. Plants, on the other hand, keep still (unless the wind blows, but it wouldn't do that, would it?)

A very nice catch - and thank you for the information about a bird that I do not think is exists around here.

I have never seen this bird before so it was not only a sight to see but an education as well. Thanks for a neat post.

Even before I read your text, I thought how difficult it is to photograph birds in flight; a Great photo!

Beautiful shot of the Oystercatchers.
Did not know that one. I'm familiar with many seabirds of the northern climes, so had to check the bird book. Thanks for sharing.

Great photo. We have to drive about 400 miles to see Oyster-catchers.
They are a great bird.

I did a post recently on the American Oyster-catcher (Haemateopus palliatus). See link.
