WOULD YOU TREAT YOUR HOME LIKE THIS?

If you read the header for Ramsey Daily Photo my disclaimer was that this site wouldn't always be pretty sunsets and landscpaes, it would show you the side you don't see in the brochures. An honest representaion. Well, I haven't posted, much of the ugly side but today I'm posting the reality, literally the rubbish side of Manx life.

This is someone's litter. The crap that they couldn't be bothered taking home, finding a bin or any kind of suitable recepticle to dispose of their garbage in. Instead they just left it in the worst place of all to me, the place I find most offensive to my sensibilities to dump it, the nature reserve.

This is home to birds and wildlife. What happens if they rumage amonsgt this? What happens if your dog or child roots around in this? Who pays the price for the consequences of finding the discarded half full lighters, the beer cans, and who knows what else there is here. I only snapped a fraction of it. It disgusted me so much I had to walk away. Mindless idiots, selfish beyond belief. I am so incensed by this that this post will probably be mostly incoherrant and certainly full of typos. Not a post to be witty and forgive the pun throwaway. I hope YOU who left this read this and I hope you are bloody ashamed of yourself. Is this how you live at home? No. Well don't dump on the home of the non humans around here.

I have been told to stop this blog by "manx4manx"( Too cowardly to email me their real name) on the grounds that I am not from Ramsey and it's frivolous. Not the only one , but the most vitriolic. Here you are then a no nonsence, unfunny straight down the line post on the everyday real life of Ramsey. Enjoy!

Your comments are I'm afraid to say spot on. Since I came to live on the island seven years ago things have deteriated badly on the rubbish side of things. Where there were once clean and pleasant streets there is now litter strewn everywhere. I did have a page of my site dedicated to the crap that I found whilst walking on the beaches, stuff you just wouldn't believe including TV's. I think its about time the authorities woke up to the fact that there are a certain number of people who don't care about our society and throw litter all over the place not bothered about the consequences and so they should start employing a number of inspectors who could catch the people in the act and fine them straight away. Hit them where it hurts in their pocket. I'm sure if they were find £500 for dropping a sweet wrapper they'll think twice the next time.......And don't even get me started on the dog mess saga.....sorry to go on......

Back where I am from, people would go through the rubbish looking for something to identify who left it, like an old bill or mail. The the county would go after that person. It is a shame that people are so disrespectful, the the land and to each other. Your doing a wonderful job, keep it up. Your a daily read of mine.

Please don't let a noisy minority run you off, Babooshka! I never knew Ramsey existed before I joined CDPB and caught site of your wonderful photos. I'm sure you make it a better place. Keep up the good work and keep sharing with those of us who will never get to see it except through your photos.

"Louis" applauds you for posting this! He feels strongly about this kind of degradation of our lives - for that is what it is - a degradation of our lives, by people who don't care. "Louis" could very easily go on a rant of his own about this subject....

You should post the e-mail and invite comment. One would hope someone that was proud of their home would welcome all the attention that it could get. I can’t say I have seen anything on this blog to dissuade me from visiting. Quite the opposite actually. Narrow-minded morons like this "manx4manx" are far more likely to achieve that outcome.

bravo to your post, you're right to shout against people who do not respect the others by throwing their garbage anywhere.
We have the same problem in Evry, or Monday morning people have thrown their bins in passageways, because too lazy to get off bins in the local-bin. ;o(

here here
hey twas thee that got me to post a pic of some of the rubbish in Hyde.

Warts an all - that's what CDPB is all about - we love the pretty pics we also love the straight honesty of the not-so-pretty - those that only show the nice touristy pictures end up being boring and those that try to "sell" their place only come across as ... well fill your own word in.

I am afraid the problem is consumerism and bad education. They are so busy worrying about their overcrowded curriculae that they have thrown away the time required for giving the young a grounding in living. They will scream 'teamwork' at you until your head rings - this was true in the fifties too - yet not consider that getting a sense of social cohesion is important. Aggression and competitiveness are more important than altruism.
Initially I thought you were talking od garden refuse of the worst kind: if you go to Nexus and click on 'A Garden in Wales' you will see what greeted us when we moved into a council house in Llanelli 25 years ago. I have not finished that page but you will get the idea.
Things were worse on our island home with all manner of detritus.
Sorry, I too am close to rant mode.

Yes the Isle of Man is a popular place....but there are so many out there. Indeed, where we live is particularly popular, the moors, Whitby, Scarborough...each week we see so many coming here. Their impressions are just as important. It is all too well to say your comments are frivulous (which they are not in my view) and again may be typos here cos I too am rattled now.

ABC early today!

Oh mY! Babooshka! To tell you the truth, as I've started viewing your blog a month ago, This has been your best post! Very very real! It really inspired me to also be brave and step up to the barrier of beeing a 'beauty' blog. But also, show the bad sides of cavite!

I am here, giving you a round of applause, or even a standing ovation! Great joB!

And to the ONE that did this rubbish thing, I hope he really be ashamed of himself. Especially on a nature rese4rve! that's what really stuck me!

And to the one throwing you those nasty e-mails, Good job on ignoring them! They're just plain 'envious' messages!

Go Babooshka! Continue doing a great job! Hope to see you soon on Cavite Daily Photo! God Bless you and Mabuhay!

Anyone who wants people who don't come from Ramsey to not voice their opinions and thoughts of the place is very short sighted at the least. If new blood didn't go to places like Ramsey then the place would end up stagnating. I don't know if it is the case but I can imagine that a lot of Manx born and bred people have probably left over the years, especially young ones. It happens here as well with locally born youngsters (in particular) leaving the countryside for the bright lights and better job prospects of the town and city.
Keep up the good work. You've made me think about visiting to see the place for myself. Something maybe manx4manx doesn't want.

Disgraceful. To simply ruin a natural area with litter is a sad state of one's mind. Touble is, there are lazy dullards who litter all over the world.

Not sure why someone like manx4manx would want you to stop blogging about Ramsey. Oddly enough, manx4manx thinks your blog as frivolous, yet is reading it. Makes no sense at all. Perhaps the individual is merely jealous of what you have created here.

Keep up the good work, here.

Yeah, I agree with what everyone else said. Makes me wonder what got manxian knickers in such a twist, but really don't want to waste much time dwelling on that - it's 30 seconds of my life that I'll never get back. :)
I like your photos of the good, bad, and ugly - the whole picture of where you live, and how you relate to your world. Also thank you for being so generous with photography tips for beginners like me.
And if you find out who dumped the trash, let me know and I just might put on my Art School Boots of Doom and come over and give 'em a good swift kick.
(off soapbox now)

I can not understand what manx4manx is going on about.. at the end of the day you are promoting the place... and doing it well..
As for the rubbish.. I see plenty of this when out and about in our countryside never mind the town centre.
Keep up the good work.

Bravo! Don't you for a minute consider giving up your blog.

Perhaps Manx4Manx, who appears to take such great pride in his native status, will feel obligated to step in and clean up this crap himself on the grounds that his spirit of community is somehow more legitimate than yours. I doubt it though. Apparently it is easier to sit on one's anonymous behind and flaunt one's enormous sense entitlement.

I don't care where you're from, Baboo, you do an excellent job of promoting your community! Keep up the great work.

I vote that we follow your lead and photograph, for just one day, the ugliest, most neglected spot in our local community. Truth hurts!

I always thought tha South Africans were bad when it came to littering, but I am learing that these louts seem to litter every part of the planet.
These people should be made to clean the streets if caught littering
