ODD SHOTS MONDAY- SISKIN

Back to the birds! Same as my first Odd Shots a few weeks back(the chaffinch on my hand) this little siskin flew into the window. I again sat with him for about 2 hours until he started to come round. For some reason they always seem to hop onto my hand. Maybe it's to escape the cats or warmth, but they all seem to do this when injured, but rousing.

This time I didn't have the tripod. Instead I tried my new macro, that I've been dying to use. So this is a one handed macro shot. Not the ideal way to get a bird image, but it seem to have worked out ok. I seem to have a charmed life when it comes to photographing birds. Had no idea what odd shot to do this week, when this little fellow appeared last friday. Unlike the locals the birds seem to adore being part of ramsey daily photo.

We were always getting birds flying into the kitchen window at the previous house, mortally so at times. This has a happy ending.

Amazing! You've done it again. I want this one to go with the chaffinch. This is my favourite bird shot so far of yours. Remarkable honey!

Remember Leah?

I think you must paint your window with bird-attractant, just so you can get these gorgeous photos! Your one-handed macro has worked well.

Charmed indeed! Even fortunate enough to have a nice manicure when you got the fabulous macro shot! :-) Thank you for sharing again!

You are obviously a bird whisperer. No, really, it takes tons of patience to build trust with birds. And your one-handed macro technique turned out some really nice photos.

soooo pretty !
nice.

Now that is some macro shot! It is odd because I would never expect a bird like that to trust humans to land on a hand and just short of a miracle that you could get a shot off to capture for us to see!

I think you are a Manx Witch or one of the Fairy Folk. Magical photo.

Amazing shots. I love birds but have never had one in my hand like that. I appreciated your visiting my blog.

I wonder and I'm glad that the little bird lives. Last time a bird flew against my kitchen window I found it dead a day later.

Very nice that the bird finds shelter on your hand.

You have a wonderful touch with the birds. It is a special gift.

This reminds "Louis" of the 'Far Side' cartoon drawn by Garry Larsen showing a bird bouncing off a window, the caption being 'Bird discovers the phenomenon of windows'.

Cartoon aside, "Louis" found these photos to show a real tenderness - and "Louis" was struck by how the bird's expression in the first photo shows an uncommon trust. The bird seems to know it is very vulnerable, but also very safe with you.

Mme. la Vache really likes birds, so she was delighted with these photos.

"Louis" thanks you for your comments at his Memorial Day post.

I didnt change the name, I had to creat a new blog ... my computer was cracked and someone got to know more about me than it should ... one thing was the passwords to my blogs so ... that bucanneer son of his %%#### deletted three of them!

Now the link is http:quinttarantino.blogspot.com and the blog name "lenses & visions".

These are beautiful birds, and this little fellow is a joy to see. We get great flocks of these in the winter, come spring and summer I rarely see them. I'm sure the colouring and the leaf cover are to blame for that. Great captures and well done ith the testing of the macro.

I have to agree w/ dot... I can't imagine having a bird sit in my hand. That's a very nice shot! I also like the pic of the butterfly, I don't think I'd ever be able to get a shot of one, like you said, must be the warmer weather or something. You're quick!

Ah, so that's a siskin. Lovely post, Babooshka! Animals seem to sense when a helping hand is extended their way and it seems as if they have your number. Thanks for sharing all your feathered friends with us.

Birding and photography are a perfect match. Cute littel bird, I'm sure he had a horrible headache for a while. Must have been a joy to help him recover.
