Roll the on the blues festival!
In and out post today. This will be critters, I'll link sign linky later. It's one of the young cormorants we have in the harbour here. This is my nemesis bird. These cormorants as you know are birds I am often chasing to get the definitive image of. Well here's the baby head shot, not as dark as it's parents yet. Really short and sweet today. It surprises me just how big these birds are... we have them inland on some of the fishing lakes and waterways.

Love this close up! I am just amazed at the colour of the bird. Most I have seen here on the Mornington Peninsula are black and white! But that doesn't mean that is all there is!

Short but perfect. Cormorants always make me think of this children's nonsense poem:
The common cormorant or shag
Lays its eggs in paper bags,
The reason you will see no doubt
Is to keep the lightening out,
But what these unobservant birds
Haven't undestood is herds
Of wandering bears may come with buns
And steal the bags to hold the crumbs!
I don't remember who the poet is but the poem always makes me laugh! I'll bet you'll never look at a cormorant the same way again now!

Every summer I try to catch a photo of one as it stops here and every year I fail..I do love them though...
