YOUNG CORMORANT- CRITTERS

Young free and single

Critters

In and out post today. This will be critters, I'll link sign linky later. It's one of the young cormorants we have in the harbour here. This is my nemesis bird. These cormorants as you know are birds I am often chasing to get the definitive image of. Well here's the baby head shot, not as dark as it's parents yet. Really short and sweet today. Busy work but for my other cormorant pics and info click the links below.

For more info click here for a great wiki round up.

Too view my other cormorant pics click words below.

Now if I can just find that elusive escaped wild wallaby of Ramsey(yes more than one now though) and a Manx Fairy for critters that would be fantastic. For more critters of the world click Misty Dawn. Told you it was a short post today.

Roll the on the blues festival!

Reader Will needs to read a bit more carefully! Who is Barbara?!

Anyway, this a cool photo. The bird looks a bit grumpy though!

It surprises me just how big these birds are... we have them inland on some of the fishing lakes and waterways.

Nice shot...I saw one of these this morning, but he was confined to a cage, so a little easier to get a shot of.

Love your "Young free and single."

Thanks for your comment info. I never knew what BSA stood for. Wow, your father rode one? That's when motorcycles looked like motorcycles and not big splashy colored pieces of plastic.

It's a great shot. I'm always amazed by how low in the water they are when swimming.

Babooshka: Very neat shot of the Cormorant. I got a take-off shot last year with all the splashing.

Love this close up! I am just amazed at the colour of the bird. Most I have seen here on the Mornington Peninsula are black and white! But that doesn't mean that is all there is!

Nice catch there. I was trying to get some shots of some Peregrine Falcons today and found the limitations of my kit Canon telephoto.

Short but perfect. Cormorants always make me think of this children's nonsense poem:

The common cormorant or shag
Lays its eggs in paper bags,
The reason you will see no doubt
Is to keep the lightening out,
But what these unobservant birds
Haven't undestood is herds
Of wandering bears may come with buns
And steal the bags to hold the crumbs!

I don't remember who the poet is but the poem always makes me laugh! I'll bet you'll never look at a cormorant the same way again now!
