I is for icon

Patrick Swayze was here

Patrick Swayze has sadly died. Very sorry to here that around these parts. He is yet another film star who graced our humble shores here filming the rom/com "Keeping Mom" on the island. He described my island as "a magical place with magical people". Now who am I to disagree with a Hollywood Icon? Also chuffed to say he was to be seen doing a spot of the old " dirty dancing" at the legendary nightspot Nightlife, the image you see above.

Some of you may know the alternative names of "Fightlife" or no can't say that one. Put it this way it begins with SH.. Nonetheless it remains as Ramsey's most premier, iconic nightclub. Perhaps premier is manipulating the truth somewhat, but iconic it certainly is. Ramsey only has one nightclub you see. That sort of makes it legendary and iconic. It's a real throwback to a bygone era of sticking to sodden beery carpet twirling lights and people behaving like a whirring dervish. It attracts absolutely all comers. Age, musical taste, locals, tourists, fairy folk, witches, wizards, Frank the rabbit and of course iconic film stars when in town. You will find the population of Ramsey, who haven't stayed in or still standing after the pubs close, doing there own version of dirty dancing into the small hours. Be warned no trainers, but otherwise, if you the entrance fee and a pulse you are most certainly welcome and no one will put you in the corner.

Sorry for the really horrid, poor quality image. Not my usual standard at all. Only one of nightlife I had to hand. For other abc's see here

NIGTHLIFE, DIRTY DANCING IN RAMSEY

This is the world famous Nightlife. Ok, it's not at all world famous (or even infamous), more island famous. It's Ramsey's one and only nightclub, imaginatively entitled Nightlife. It also has alternative names locally of "fightlife" and er another name, not for a family blog. Just substitute a letter with a "sh" and I believe you will arrive at it's other not so pretty alternative name. This is where when the pubs close, you will find the local wildlife after hours dancing round their handbags , spilling beer, falling over and having a fab time in this building right along the harbour. It's also where the world famous Patrick Swayze was found to be dirty dancing, not putting anyone's baby in the corner when he was filming "Keeping Mom" a couple of years back. Patrick by the way described the island and the people as magical. What he thought of Nightlife has never been recorded, or if it has disclosed. I'm sure he thought it was magical too. Ahem!

Of course it has done nothing but rain here, with the odd dry spell. Typical! Ramsey Week and the camera isn't witnessing much action of it. Putting a few bits and pieces together and will plod on and get the locals somehow.

Awards time. I have been given 3 lots of awards recently so it's a bout time I dished them out. I recieved this one twice. First one was from Quin at LENSES AND VISIONS called Arte Y Pico award.

SKYWATCH FRIDAY - ST PAUL'S CHURCH, RAMSEY

Yesterday I posted a photo of the tallest building in Ramsey, the flats overlooking St Paul's Square. Right next door to those flats is St Paul's Church, bathed in a deep blue sky rather than the rolling clouds and grey days we have had recently.

St Paul's is the oldest church in Ramsey, although the facade above is quite a modern attachment. One of several churches now in the Parish of Ramsey( Parish rather than town) it's still the most popular which a steady stream of people passing through it's doors daily, not just for wedding, funerals and christenings. The ladies of the church hold regular coffee mornings and charitable events with assistance from St Paul's hall adjacent to the the church. The Church is the focal point for St Paul's Square and shopping precinct. It's also right opposite Ramsey's one and only Nightclub, Nightlife. I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions, but Patrick Swayze has been in both when he was filming "Keeping Mom" here. I think he confined his dirty dancing to Nigthlife though. The ladies of St Paul's Church only like their teas and coffee hot!

If you want to particpate in skywatch see Tom at WIGGERS WORLD.

GOLDEN GLOW

Later with the post tonight, because I heard it was going to be dry all day. This meant I got the chance to do some early evening shooting. It's Ramsey Harbour Swing Bridge in the distance, under one of the best sunsets we've had for a while. Definately feels like summer's on it's way.

If anyone has seen the film the Martins with Kathy Burke and Lee evans you may have noticed the bridge in the background of a key scene in the film. Just behind me out of shot is Ramsey's one only nightclub called Nightlife( and other things). This is where Patrick Swayze did his "dirty dancing" when he was filming "Keeping Mom"over here. Zac Efron was recenty over here filimg aswell, and yes he was mobbed by lots of young girls when he went into a coffee shop. He even had to have a police escort out the backdoor of a local coffee shop.
