Crashing waves and floods

                          Incoming............

Like a lot of places around the globe Ramsey too suffered the damage of the recent floods. Consistent rain, coupled with extremely high tides joined together to batter the island. Homes and business's across the island received a fair amount of damage, though fortunately the house shown did not. You can normally walk along the beach here (I take most of my sunrises here, to give you an example of a calmer day) but you couldn't even walk along the road adjacent to the beach, due to the overspill of the ferocious incoming tide. Did I get wet, yes. Was it worth it, again yes. Though I am considering buying a waterproof camera, or at least waterproof housing for the camera. Also, wellies.

Manx Money Laundering Monkey Business - ABC

Abc- M

Whose been a naughty Manx boy then?

Trevor Baines Tycoon infamous Tycoon of the Isle Of Man has today been convicted of a multi-million dollar money laundering scam. He was so shocked at the verdict he actually collapsed and was taken to the local hospital. The image above, by my partner Gary, you know the Political cartoonist depicts this scene with a little gag. That's what a topical illustrator does. Clever boy.

Baines was accused of transferring $175 million to bank accounts in the Isle of Man,(just like Tony Soprano did) knowing or at least suspecting that the money was from the proceeds of ill gotten(are there any other type?) of crimes. Tut Tut!

The funds had been accrued dishonestly by Roys Poyiadjis, who just happened to be the bent senior executive of American software firm AremisSoft. He fooled many Wall Street investors by inflating the share price, thus inflating the companies overall wealth. Or what we call a nice little earner in these pasts which found it's way here, via Trevor Baines and the Isle of Man Banking Industry. Oh dear. Obama was right after all. Those rules and regs do need tightening.

So there you go. That's my Abc Money Laundering, and you thought I lived on a sleepy little island. Thanks to Gary for doing the illustration in record time today for this post. Now that is real talent. You can see more of his work here. For other Abc's of a less fraudulent type here.

GRAND ISLAND HOTEL BURGLARY

Grand Theft Auto?

Be warned I'm having a rant.

Skywatch post below for those you don't want to read the ravings of an angry blogger but would like some photography tips. Back to the post in hand. Remember a couple of weeks ago I showed you an image of the building about to be demolished for My World? Click here to read the full post. In a nutshell The Grand Island Hotel has closed, due for demolition, new flats(apartments) complex are to be built on the land, and an auction to sell any keepsakes has taken place. Well guess what? Since that post a bunch of scumbags, not as polite a word as you deserve but all common decency will allow me write in blogland, have burgled whatever was left inside. Not only that they have vandalised, no trashed, the place in the process of stripping the place of it's final trappings and dare I say dignity. Nice world isn't it when even on a small relatively safe time warp island thieving scumbags hatch a plot to do a final act of ignominy to a once Grand Hotel. Sad sign of our times. Apologisies too for the image just grabbed anyone I had to hand.

That's better Now I'll do the funny side so not to depress you all. On a lighter note all I will say is the bunch of tourists who I featured the thursday all have alibis. Of course as the hotel was way off along Mooragh Promenade it was too far for their elderly weak bladders to get to without stopping to spend a penny anyway. there are no toilets that way now the hotel has closed. Also they would have had to negotiate the swinging bridge of doom and they just will not cross that particular bridge when they come to it for all the hotel fittings in Ramsey, never mind tea in China. The Zimmer Frame Gang then have been ruled out and as the Police say it's a local job.

Make of this post what you will. It happened. That's just how the world is. I chose to post it because I like light and shade and as I say in the header sometimes the ugly side of life rears it's head and I will not gloss over this just to keep folks happy. It happened, it's sad, but tomorrow is another day as they say.

QUEENS PIER, RAMSEY- WHY SAVE NOW? - MY WORLD

Queens Pier Ramsey - To save or not to save?

I was going to The Grand Island Hotel and it's close next month but today we had breaking news. No seriously this is like a big deal here. So I give you Ramsey Queens Pier. Last time I posted the pier it was certain to be demolished. Read the history then I'll tell you what going on now on this quirky island. Funny business to me!

Today has been declared make or break for the pier. There will be a vote my the Tynwald, the Manx government on saving or not saving. This means provide a £5million restoration plan. Now I have to say I don't understand this, and judging by the comments I've seen on the I.O.M. News website neither do other people. I was one of those that wanted this saving, I have posted and said that before. So when we had money on the island we not do anything to save the it and now when we have an economic downturn, recession and no surplus cash has £5million been quoted as an amount that could be approved. None of this sounds right to me.

Two things. The blog will continue. It will still be a while before we can move, along while. Next. Find me on Facebook and join me and Ramsey Daily Photo which now has it's own group. Come and say hello to the world on there. I'll be looking for you.

For more my entries click MY WORLD and thank the skywatch gang once again for another inspired idea.
