TOMORROW IS ANOTHER DAY .... OF ROADWORKS- SKYWATCH

Gone with the traffic cones

Skywatch

Well Fiddle- dee-dee it's that time of year I hate here. No not Gone with the Wind sky days. I never mind those. No it's the dreaded roadworks. Argh! Not just one road, I mean the whole island goes into some sort of free fall of little men(well they look small stuck in holes in the road) digging and drilling holes, on top of pot holes, only to resurface those same holes! An infestation of traffic cones is upon us and we will soon become cone world for the next month or so. What these cones are actually guarding is not always clear, but they are breeding daily. Why? All for the Isle of Man TT, you know those super fast motorbikes whizzing past like great balls of fire I photograph(Motoaction magazine exclusives) like a lunatic. Love the TT, HATE the roadworks.

Skywaych I know the image. Off at tangents again and a diatribe. Just had to get that whinge out the way after being stuck on a new(dead posh it is) bus that went on a very strange detour today. I'm sure the driver was lost. What can I say it's have a guess where? Of course it's the nature reserve, ah but it's a totally new tree for you. Really. Always liked the angle of this, just waiting for a suitable sky for that kind of image I wanted, well set of images. Expect to see this tree a lot under a range of skies. Afterall, I can almost see it from my back window. Now, I may never have to leave the house again if I can just get onto the roof.... Nah! I think my cover may well and truly be blown with the neighbours.

Skywatch watchers can be found here. Many thanks to Dot for the inspirational idea, Tom for the first caretaking and the My world gang for looking after skywatch now.

Btw. We finally got to see the Watchman after I complained on this blog about the cinema on the island not showing it and not catering to all tastes and not showing a wide enough range of films. It was I am happy to say(Wednesday night Babooshka saw it, in case you were there) a full house. We won. It was screened, and it was well worth the wait. Pester Power works, don't give up, afterall tomorrow is another day.

Now beam me up for Star Trek after the Laxey Blues Festival. Gotta go.

Now that's some magenta sky! Magenta sky at night sailor's delight, magenta sky in morning sailors take warning; doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

Wonderful colour (Purple) sky. Nice one.
Roadworks never heard of such a thing! In your dreams.

I always enjoy your post but this one is a corker - fantastic SWF photo, a little moan, taste of things to come, and winning ways!

It looks like two bogey men escaping with a bag full of traffic cones.

You are in a purple mood, two in a row. I do like them both. Summer grows cones in the USA as well as sure as spring brings daffodils.

A lovely silhouette backed by a rose-colored sky and puffs of purple pillows.

Pester Power is sorely underrated!

Loverly color Caused by .. dust?
whatever it is nice. Sorry you are suffering cone issues.. I always manage to mow over a few when I pass.. :)

Fantastic sky! Congratulations!

Judi- Don't tell everyone it's only dirty dust particles in the sky ssh! We call them Manx Fairy Dust particles. Sounds far more magical.

Nothing like purple skies, purple rain perhaps?

Awesome shot

Cracking photo Babooshka as normal. I have a theory...These traffic cones you're on about I'm sure they breed in the old cafe / museum at Bungalow and the Manx Faeries come out under the secret of nightand move them about the island.....Well that's what I think as they are bloody everywhere.

Though I am thousands of miles from where you are, I feel your pain. Know it so well.

I like this photo so very much. As if three angels are sitting down (why stand?) to pray for the end of road works.

erin said...

indeed it is a gone with the wind sky ;)
love it.
have a wonderful weekend despite the roadworks projects.

Carver said...

Sorry about the road issue.

That's an incredible shot. Surely there are goblins hidden out of view. For that matter the shapes on the left of the main tree towards the right have a goblin feel to them.

Beautiful sky. Hate roadwork.

Too bad the road issue. The sky shot is beautiful with a lovely color.

We can always count on Babooshka for a dramatic Skywatch Friday! Now surely a little hobit resides in this tree!

Very enjoyable goth mood here. the pink really makes it something else. It´s like a reversed version of one of my fave album covers, The Church-Seance, seen here: http://3.music.bigpond-images.com/images/AlbumCoverArt/421/XXL/Seance2.jpg

Dramatic or what! Those trees are amazing. They look like they should be walking - on Doctor Who or something.

Laxey always comes to a standstill from what I recall. I also recall the reserve when it was desolate. Haunting sky.

Amazing color in the sky. Happy Weekend!

Feels like that here too. It is treacherous going out these days. You jump on a bus and it becomes a mystery tour. Detours dont actually mean they will put you anywhere you know or that remotely ties in with the normal route. Ho hum. Love the skywatch. Very easy to see how the Isle developed fairies, withces and the like. These trees look like they could step out and scare you at anytime.

Roadworks! I know all about them! See my "that's My World" post of a few weeks ago! Fortunately nothing lasts for ever. Your photo is great! Have a wonderful weekend!

Babooshaka: The road less traveled is where you got your colored captured. You would like to travel with the beam, so much easier.

I agree with Laughing Orca Ranch in that I've never seen a sky that color. And that tree is eery, eery.

Fabulous shot! Love the colour on it. Excellent.
Glad you got a response at the cinema at last! And hopefully you'll dodge the cones for now...

Pop over and see mine - my blog doesn't update because of being private, but anyone wanting an invite - just email me to get one.

Lovely capture you have shared with us.Great SWF stuff.
I think I can see two figures in the two trees to the left.
Sympathy regards the cloned cones and disruption. May TT soon be Ta Ta.

Yes I can well imagine that as much fun as it is, the TT is also a pain in the arse for the locals!

Beautiful pink sky.

Tarolino said...

Purple is the theme for this week?
Looks like a sky were witches and warlocks come out of every nook and cranny to scare the wits out of ordinary mortals. Be honest, did you alter the colours of this image? Sky is never really that kind of colour, or is it?

Jane Hards Photography said...

Taralino- No alterarions. It's all to do with camera setting on manual and long exposure times. Auto would just bleach the colour. We do get very purple skies here, which is why most of my skywatch are a purple hue. We rarely get orange and I'm always amazed when I see those.

Any ideas where to stay for TT Laxey or Douglas? A post would be appreciated. Very pretty.

Love that purple sky! How cool!

Loran said...

Lucky you, we don't get purple skies much. The light is very harsh.

I'm wondering how the picture of the tree would have turned out if you had been willing to get up on the roof!

Lew said...

Love the tree and sky! And I commiserate with you on the road works. We have events in the Washington, DC area that close roads numerous times during a year. The IMF meets - close some streets; inauguration - close all the streets downtown; marathon - close a hodgepodge of streets! In any case, soon and you can have fun photographing the TT and hopefully make a few quid as well.

We get orange. Nice silhouette.

How lucky to live near a nature reserve, and such a photogenic tree. Even if you did have to endure traffic torture, you had a reward for your suffering. BTW, here in Michigan, we say there are two seasons: winter, and construction.

Another great photo. The first two trees from the left look like soldiers walking through the scrub. Especially the middle one, with the rounded helmet top & rucksack.

Did you take a photo of the new trendy bus?
