Sleeping Siskin
Babooshka
Shh! Sleeping siskin. You know what happens they fly into our windows and I sit with them until they come round. This little male, was a little dazed and confused, but flew away eventually. Sometimes they come round in minutes, sometimes hours. This one had a little nap before he flapped off. Me being me, I just had to take his little snap when I knew he was hunky dory. Any references to me being a Manx fairy, a bird whisperer, or a white witch are just not true, and George the siskin can verify that fact. What siskins don't talk to you?
Ramsey is actually full of sikins now. They are becoming very common garden birds all year round, rather than the visiting migrating birds to here they used to be. We often have about 30 of these in the garden. Have you any idea how much a tiny bird can eat? Want to attract siskins to your place. Try niger seeds to attract them, and then white sunflower heatrs to keep them. Works a treat, but be warned, they won't leave. By the way this a Europoen siskin, which is quite different to the American. Put siskin as a seacrh word on my blog and you will find posts all about the differences.

This is a really lovely photo of this sleepy little chap. He looks so cute :)
LB,
How the heck did you get that? Kudos and props. I'm setting up a paypal to buy your photos. Come on girl, let me know how to buy them.
This is a beautiful little bird and so nice that it is on the mend. We sometimes get a lot of Pine Siskins and one year quite a few of them were yellow like the one you have pictured. A nice critter for sure.
What a beauty! Nice to know he was ok.
What a little sweetie. So glad he was OK. I have a bird feeder out my computer corner window and sometimes they do fly into it, but usually are unscathed.
An interesting bird, we don't see them in our part of the world but we do have the same problem of birds flying into our windows. Just this morning a tiny bird persisted time and again with flying through, fortunately he would beat his wings and go back to the tree before making another try. The larger birds are not so lucky. like yours they knock themselves out.
I love Pine Siskins but I haven't seen the European variety before. Window collisions are a big problem for wild birds. Sometimes the bird will fly away but still end up dying later. There are window guards you can buy to place on any windows that seem to be a problem. The birds see the decal but you don't! Check them out http://birdsinmyyard.com/index.php?cPath=1_25
Brad said go see this photo. It's a knockout babe. Bird whisperer. I'll buy that.
Aww I hate it when birds fly into windows by accident I feel so bad. Glad to hear this one is doing ok, he's cute :)
What a lovely little bird - I just love his coloring!
OK I don't get it . Do these birds fly into your windows?? WHY? Too much ale at the pub?
This one is so darn cute! Great capture and not your usual fare but wonderful as always , B.
Babooshka: What a great looking bird, the birds of England are normally much more colorful the American birds.
WOW! I've never seen such beautiful bird! Yellow and black! WOW!
Mine is posted HERE. Happy CC!~
I am glad to hear the wee fellow had a happy ending! Poor thing!
Beautiful little bird, captured so well!
so cute..
Mme la Vache is quite the bird lover, so she was delighted with this photograph!
Great photo of the little bird. I don't think we have them.
Thanks for visiting1
Hello Babooshka !
You're not a Manx fairy ??? Ah !
Your text is funny, and beautiful photo... You love green colour parliament !)...
The bird is lovely !
Have a nice day !
a cure little fellow, no wonder you enjoy taking care of them :)
This little fellow is marvellous!!
Flying into windows often happens when they are young and especially when the sun reflects strongly into mirror windows.
LOL, you got him great. Thanks for the heads up on the 1/1/09. I didnt think it was time for that yet. The year has zipped past.
He's so pretty!! I have pigeons fly into my window sometime - they make a very loud thump and leave dust prints on the glass. But they always get up and fly off. Hmmm, more lunches for the peregrine.
Good night! Sleep Tight! Dream of bed bugs.... Yummy!
He is lovely - glad he recovered from his rudely interrupted flight!
GREENFINCH is sleeping.it's beautiful.
WHat a beautiful photo and a great, and funny entry to go with it! Thanks for stopping by my CC entry :-)
An excellent shot. I am glad that he recovered from his unfortunate accident and that you were able to photograph him.
Cute little bird with nice color.
I'm not sure I know the bird. Searched from dictionary, still don't know the exact name in my language...Cute bird!
He looks sweetly sleeping and how kind that you stay with them while reawaken after crashing into your window. :)
Well, I've learnt something new today. I've never heard of a siskin before, and what a little cutie too :-)
Ah, good "hit the window" story. I actually think he's bowing reverentially in your presence, and you really are a Manx fairy ;-)
Ah ssh! Sweet.
Can't say I've ever conversed with a Siskin before, or even seen one. I do talk to cats and dogs, though. Whether they understand or not is always open to debate :)
Nice of you to take in strangers :)
how very demure sandy
It is a shame but to them, windows look like a dark place they can fly into such as dark places in bushes and trees or through dark passes. It is a sad tale but true that many are killed when flying into glass windows.
You deserve a cupcake for being such a doll.
Not much of an ornithologist but I've never seen one of these before, least not in Brum anyway! But I'll keep my eyes peeled...
Ah, a blogger on a tiny island posting daily photos of her surroundings! Something uncannily familiar about that....hmmmm.
Glad to be your 'shadow' in the Pacific!
Cloudia, Oahu Hawaii
nice capture!!!cute and very pretty...thanks for the visit and happy weekend...
Thanks for dropping by my Camera Critters at Small Reflections. I’m glad you enjoyed the dog & cat diaries. I can relate to the ‘dazed birds’ you write of here because birds often fly into my French Doors and the same thing happens around here. I enjoyed learning a bit more about siskins, but I don’t think we have those birds around here at the beach in Southern California.
Hugs and blessings,
Poor little bird ! I have that with my window doors sometimes too and have to hurry otherwise my cats would take care of it !
Dear Manx fairy,
You do have a way with photos and I'm so glad you waited for him to wake up. My favorite little guys, Chickadees, are very much a garden bird around here like your siskens. What a lovely post. Thanks for sharing!
Impressive catch!
WOW... this photo is outstanding... bravo...
he looks so peaceful dozing there!
AAAh he is beautiful nice capture
What beautiful colours and markings on this wee bird! Beautiful photo! Thank you for stopping by earlier :)
What a beautiful bird the markings are awesome. Fantastic shot!
How sweet she looks. I do worry so when one hits the glass and always want to somehow "help" but of course can't.
