ABC- M is for Mooragh Park.
Mooragh Park, contains Mooragh Lake was like Albert Tower, built by the Victorians. In 1881, the Ramsey Town Commissioners bought a 200 acre tidal swamp. Ramsy Rugby Clubhouse. Ramsey home games are still played here. You know that though as I've shown you the images.
The park and lake have proved to be a great success for Ramsey, bringing visitors and tourists alike for canoeing, birdwatching, skateboarding or just to relax for lunch in one of the 2 cafes. Events are still held here such as varied music festivals, youth cycling tours and of course Ramsey Sprint(motorbikes along the promenade) during the TT Road Races. Of course you will also find this photographer up there. By the way this is the lake that I went for an unintentional swim in when my canoe capsized. It was so black I thought it was still a swamp. How I got back in the canoe fully clothed and sopping wet is still beyond me. Happy to report no sharks in the lake, but the financial sharks are lurking on dry land.

You are so funny. I'm glad the land sharks didn't get you.;)
I love the yellow railing along the lake. It adds a splash of color.:)
LB,
The land sharks are circling here too. Mooragh is that a welsh word? I get so confused about your part of the world. Email me. The yellow railing just got me a sucker punch again.
It seems a beautiful place to go for a walk.
Brad,
Not Welsh, guess again! I've emialed you or you can find it in an earlier post. I'm off to bed folks. Thank you all, for the comments above and the ones to come. Catch you when I wake.
The best Moooragh photo bar none. All your photos have a unique perspective. Better than the usual island dross! Why the island doesn't have you as there pin up photographer is beyond me! Our office has voted the Rugby one as the best ever Ramsey Rugby photo. Don't know what else to say but stick with it, one day they will be begging to use your photos.
The new TV adverts are a joke, and why no Laxey Wheel? Keep on blogging, we love it.
M for Mooragh, of course. Perfect. As you rightly say this is one fantastic park. Never been on the lake but the daughters raced there in canoes a few years back and fell in like you. Next time you do go out on the lake be careful and contact us at Ramsey Lifeboat Station if you need rescuing.
I like this yellow curvy line..
Happy you didn't encounter any monsters during your very brief swim in that lake!!!
What a nice place to walk..
Stay dry now! :0)
Such a pretty view with the mountain in the background!
Did you get a peek at the Loch Ness Monster while you were taking your unplanned swim? Since Nessie hasn't been seen in Lock Ness for a time, "Louis" thought she might be lurking there...
i will definitely do jogging in such beautiful scenic place!
what a pretty place!!!!! and I love the bright yellow rail- it blends AND contrasts if that's possible!
I really like this yellow fence, it's tastefully bright!
....... beautiful.....
Super photo and facts to go along with it. This sort of public space makes a community healthy.
That was a good choise for the M. Have a nice day:)
une belle promenade avec une superbe vue.
a beautiful promenade with a superb view.
Hello Babooshka !
Thank You for the good explain. Yoy love Your Man island...
Nice photo...
Beautiful - looks like a great place - I would love to do some birdwatching there
Looks like a nice place. Getting into canoes from the water is not easy but maybe thick water helped.
The island gets more attractive for each of the reports I read here, maybe with the exception of the financial sharks...
The Victorians were good at things like that.
Glad you survived the ducking!
Is this the lake shaped like the IoM? I seem to remember walking round one like that.
Excellent & Informative.... 'M' posting... I also enjoyed reading about Manannan's Cloak.. It rung a bell in the back of my head and I know now that for the rest of the day I will be trying to remember something...
Ha! You asked about my knitting.. Yes it's true... I took it up years ago to help stop smoking... I do not knit as much now but I might knit you a camera if you like.. :O) I've knitted one before.
MOORAGH PARK is certainly a place I'd like to visit! It must be a place of recreation, relaxation and rest at the same time. Great informative post!
A very beautiful place with the pretty fence.
My 'M' for Mumbai Machhi-walis
Thats a lovely photograph!

Nice photos.
Nice photography. An interesting post to read too.
i love this place - looks so peaceful
Very nice photo with the winding railing. Nice job!
What a staartling yellow railing! It makes a great pic!
Thanks for your kind comments on mine :)
Hi Babooshka. I am catching up. I loved your skywatch with the cloak shrouding the island and the one on white cats. The one below could have been for your M too - Manx money! I dread to think of the maths involved in THAT!
Love this one too and sorry not to comment on each one as usual, but just trying to get round people at the moment.
Mooragh Park should be made better use of in the winter months. You have a very good blog promoting Ramsey. Well done.
An inviting photo indeed, and I love the composition with the yellow railing.
What a beautiful sweep of yellow iron work, leading the eye on and on. Such a beautiful park, lake and those mountains. I'm not sure how I feel about the colour yellow...it's different! Think I might have preferred it to be green but no one asked me!
1200 pounds for 200 acres of tidal swamp paid in 1881!
It would be interesting to know what the current price would be in 2008.
Again a lovely photo for ABC Wednesday.
Bear((( )))
Lovely! Loved reading your post!
Nice place and a very interesting post!
It really looks like a nice place to take a stroll!
I scrolled through your page & happened upon the white cat post - that was very interesting as I have two white cats myself. I say "hello" to them both everyday, so lets hope my angels are doing their jobs! hehehe!
I really like the composition of this photo and the name of the lake. All good choices for the 'm' day. I always learn something new when I visit you too. Happy Wednesday!
eewww where there any eels??? Lucky the fence is yellow its the same colour as the sun so you know whick way up you are as you roll around in that canoe.
When the banks have finished revaluing the worlds monopoly money you might be able to rebuy the land for the same price. Now hows that for progress??
Have referenced you in todays blog (albeit a little late).
A canoe mishap... The kind of things we do for art!
A lovely lake and the fence colour is both surprising and attractive, and enticing too.
ann
It looks a great place, almost like a Scottish loch. I love the curve of the yellow fence that you've captured.
Beautifully composed, love the perspective!
What wonderful composition!
The lines, curves, and all other elements are perfectly composed from a striking angle.
And the colour of that fence is definitely a strike!
Bravo, Babooshka!
Any comment I could possibly make about the photograpaph in this post or the preceeding ones would obviously be deemed redundant, yet I would like to tell you that I enjoyed viewing them. I would also like to thank you for visiting my place. Your comment is much appreciated.
What a wonderful park. The parks in our town are more rustic, but the forests in their natural state are great places to refresh and have fun. I invite you to come see my "better" mouse trap. -- Margy
This is a lovely view.....the park must be wonderful....
Sounds like a nice place to spend some time. I like the picture, but must say that yellow railing seems to stick out like a sore thumb in comparison to the surroundings - kind of jarring - is it so in person?
a park with a view. thanks for sharing.
Hi,
Thank You for viewing my blog (ABC-Wednesday) & very kind of you. Thank you also for sharing about a park view, nice place to visit.
Have a nice day.
I like the yellow 'S' along the water... nice perspective...
Capsizing is no fun at the best of times; even worse when the water is not clean. Nice shot.
Looks a beautiful place, but I think I'd rather stay out of the water! Glad you survived.
Love that yellow fence. It would frame any picture beautifully. Sorry to hear about the unintentional dip in the swamp.
Looks like a great place to take a walk!
I love how that bright fence leads your eye through the photo and to the mountains...well done, as usual!!
This looks like a fantastic place to take a stroll. And I like the angle you took this from. The path just seems to beg, "Follow me!"
