Poyll Dooey - Attack of the Killer JCB - My World

Look at what has happened to The Poyll Dooey Nature Reserve

A Killer JCB is on the loose in Ramsey...

In the name of Progress!

Let the images do most of the talking tonight. I have many more be warned. I did warn you last week that the beautiful nature reserve is being torn and apart, for what we don't know? Housing supposedly. We need houses in the town. We need a wildlife haven here. Not that complicated an idea to grasp is it? Even heard a suggestion it could be a Supermarket. What next paving paradise for a car park? So if you know what the hell is happening to this heavenly area, apart from the land being savagely destroyed let us all know, as the people ripping it up don't seem to know either. Just "doing their job." Now where have I heard that before. MHK's, anyone in charge, anyone know anything- answers here. Now! You know I won't shut up about it until you do, and neither will my readers.

I will be interested to see what is being built or going on here.... there must be 'plans' submitted for this work... even if it is just to improve drainage.

I have just spent some time on Google and came up with this...
RAMSEY DEVELOPMENT GIVEN THE GO AHEAD.
Isle of Man Newspapers (Douglas, England) July 19, 2006

PLANNING permission for a scheme to build more than 200 homes in Ramsey has been confirmed at review.

Planners have already given Heritage Homes the go-ahead to build 135 houses, 52 apartments, a pub and a nursery, plus create 38 self-build plots on two sections of land at Poyll Dooey.

Now they have confirmed approval for both phases of the scheme.

............................

I hate to bring you what looks like sad news for this area...

'Douglas, England' lol. I'm not laughing at you Tom, but rather at the ignoramuses who wrote the article.

Tom, I know about the 2006 approved proposal, but that was it. Not a confirmation. I mean I know we say time enough here, well time enough we knew what was going on.

Good grief, what a tangled web...sorry, Babooshka but this doesn't look good for your team.

I have this sinking feeling when I see something as wonderful as a nature reserve being paved over. If only human beings would pull together to set their priorities straight. A few influential people need to understand that quality of life does NOT mean making tons of money.

I live on the opposite side of the river. I know nothing about this. I thought the go ahead had been knocked back and approval over turned?

not a good thing. was reading on the internet about upcoming projects in your world and saw something about a tesco store and how that will bring in 100 new homes, and community centre for town and yada yada...is that all tied to this?

This is heart-breaking. I can't stand to see open spaces torn up. I hope you get answers. I hope the people in charge are flushed out.

What a disgrace on the 'high and mighty' of local 'society' can sanction the destruction of a nature reserve ie RESERVED for nature, like this. Shame on you IoM politicians for allowing this, surely there were more appropriate places ripe for redevelopment.

Saddened by your loss

Davo
PS when will developers stop refering to perfectly good wildlife areas as 'wasteland', ITS NOT WASTED IT HAS A FUNCTION

It is things like this that really make me choke on my tea. I was so angry when the Scottish government gave up pristine sand dunes (an SSSI no less!!!!) to Trump - just because he waved the carrot of money in front of them.

It is so true that money talks, gets you anywhere. Many of those "in charge" will just never *get* that once something in nature is gone, it's (more often than not) gone for good. Nature cannot just be bought and sold; prices can't be put on it.

So sorry your favourite nature spot is being ripped apart.

So lovely, eh? If this is progress I'd certainly hate to see what the status-quo looks like! I suppose the tsunami on the other side of the world is also considered progress???

Sounds like the invasion of the Tescos is coming your way.

Babooshka - I remember this reserve in former posts. It was once a beautiful place. So sad!

Give them hell, Babooshka! How sad to see what is happening there! We see too much of it here in the northwest, too!

Another lost bit of paradise. I wonder how many brown envelopes it took to get this passed. Hope the wildlife have found somewhere safe. Now we know why they are called WILD!

OMG, what's up with this? I thought a nature reserve was protected land.

So bad...no words from me, except contempt.

What a tragedy!

What a shame. I hope you can figure out why it's happening and put a stop to it. That beautiful scene in the post below must not die!

Had a skeet up there today and apart from a couple of metal fences keeping people out you wouldn't really know that anything had happened. I've asked around and apparently they have put in drainage for the new houses further on up Gardeners Lane which goes directly into the Sulby. Not ideal I know but that's what some people call progress now certainly looking better than the images you took.

That is absolutely dreadful...to ruin wilderness in the name of progress=engulf and devour destruction. I do hope you can still stop it.

Have you complained to the Commissioners?
Why not send your JCB photos to DAFF Wildlife & Conservation Division for comment!

eileeninmd said...

It is a shame to loose some paradise for what more shopping centers, parking lots and houses that they might have trouble selling. More and more wildlife habitat is being lost. It is so SAD.

It's a tragedy.

What a crazy system. Once people took enough pride in what they did so would be able to tell you all about it. Worries me that people are prepared to do destuctive work without knowing why. Keep up the sleuth work.

Jane Hards Photography said...

Anonymous. Thanks for the info on the photos and where to send to. I am always firing off emails re complaining.

Mannanan. Just got back from a few days in London so I'll check back up there. It was just so awful the other day and so many people I spoke to up there, dog walkers were heartbroken about the look of the place. See not one MHK bothered to drop a comment.

Babooshka, I posted a 1901 motor bike on Monte Carlo DP today (second photo) which might interest you knowing your passion for bikes.

Apologies for not visiting lately. Been a very busy time but hope to get back to normal soon. Hope you enjoyed your trip to SE France.

Oh dear, how dare "they?"

It really does look like a crime scene.

Mojo said...

I don't know what a JCB is, but my guess is it stand for the Manx for "Something Evil This Way Comes". This is criminal. You know what would make a great photo is some of that bright yellow crime scene tape stretched around the job site.
