Frankly my dears I do give a damn - Skywatch

Align LeftGone with wind, no a JCB

See that scene. Gorgeous or what. Well that might be one of the last times you see it. You know my favourite place. The place I always bang on about. You know the one with the rabbits, and fairy folk
(well I am stretching the truth maybe with the fairy folk but I wanna believe) and birds and dog poo (not white though since the 70's) and the river blah, blah. The one place where I can wander with my camera and not have little old ladies thinking I'm stealing their soul (they should be so lucky) by shooting them for the blog, yes that place. Yes the Poyll Dooey nature reserve. As if you didn't know by now. Well it's being ripped up by a JCB.

Well so far this is all I can tell you. Land has been levelled off one of the fields. This I'm told is for site access. For what you ask? The new house building going on. Ok so far, but not this. Diggers have ploughed a track over to the picnic site. Why? To make access to the picnic area. Trees are being hacked down. Large segments of the cultivated nature trail as well as the fields which have deliberately been left to fallow (for nature's sake, obvioulsy) are being ripped up too. Why? Likely for laying of pipes, possibly sewage outlets for the new houses.

May I suggest instead of ripping up the place that is a haven for wildlife, the powers that be actually look to the town to renovate existing derelict buildings and relevant plots. We need affordable accommodation in the town centre, not in the middle of a out of town fallow field at over inflated prices. I hope the fairy folk and Ginnie the Witch and of course myself curse your powers that be sorry asses.

Talk about can't see the wood for the trees! For less belligerent skywatch skies see here

Sorry to hear about it. It's beautiful. I agree with you about re-using the property that already exists. And of course there are fairies.

Gorgeous shot, dramatic colors, Babooshka! And, of course I couldn't agree more about what the powers that be are planning. Cheers to the fairy folk, the gremlins, whatever witches are available and may they wreak their wrath on those jackasses! We have the some of the same problems here!

Have a great weekend!

Sylvia

The powers that be in the Isle of Man do as they please and everyone else can whistle. They are the biggest bunch of self-serving, back-scratching under the table double-dealers you'll ever have the misfortune to come across and they're hell bent on ruining the place.

Sorry B, great picture.

Martha Z said...

Great photo. They can get away with this? A nature preserve should be a sacred trust, may the fairys get their revenge.

Robin said...

I have no idea what a JCB is but I'm outraged at the destruction they're reaping. Nature preserves are supposed to be just that - PRESERVES. They're not called "nature developments".

My heart is breaking for you.

Mojo said...

I don't know what a JCB is, but a pox on them! Obviously they're backed by some serious funding or there'd be no getting around the "preserve" part of "nature preserve".

Sadly, even here in the "highly enlightened" US of A, we face the same fight all the time. Nobody seems to understand that there's no such thing as "environmentally friendly development". When you come into a wild area and tame it -- in part or in sum -- you trash the ecosystem that was there. Nature balances everything, it's only when we shove our grubby mitts into the mix that things get whacked.

I mourn your loss Babs. Truly. And if the curses of a churlish disagreeable old man will bring these mavens of "progress" to ruin, you can count on me.

Mojo said...

Oh. Sorry, in my ire, I forgot to compliment you on an awesome photograph!

that is sad. but your photo is as always outstanding.

keep us posted on this.

Oh no! It's heartbreaking to see that happening in your park, and my God, everywhere. Every country seems to be destroying its beautiful parklands to build new houses, while letting their cities rot from the inside out. What happened to us?

I'm thankful for all your beautiful photos of such a wonderful magical place. At this rate they may be the only sight I ever have of some of it. Thanks for sharing all the views.

Dewdrop said...

Oh, I am so sorry... the same thing happened to my favorite sunset (westward view) spot! All in the name of "progress". Gorgeous shot... enjoy trying to find your new spot. Perhaps steal a few souls from the JCB punks.

As always a great composed image!

A shame this is happening. I'm surprised that there wasn't some sort of public enquiry that took place before the diggers arrived.

Are you going to start a public protest?

Beautiful sky! Beautiful spot! Too many of the spots have been bulldozed. I hope this one does not destroy it all.

So sad to have read this..... I agree about where the housing should go... but of course it's not about 'new' housing at all.. it is simply 'money'.. I hope the wee folk do their magic and the ground swallows up the diggers... no bedrock ... hopefully no housing.

So darn sad and what a shame. I don't get it and never will.

It's disgusting and it's everywhere the same. In my town they did it too ! Instead of my beloved cows I have now big villas behind our garden ! and in Brussels city old houses fall into ruins !

Reminds me of the Eagles tune The Last Resort. Which , by the way, I'm working on a post for this tune.

"They call it paradise
I don't know why
You call someplace paradise,
kiss it goodbye"

Sad to see progress lay waste to our nature reserves.

Marites said...

Sometimes, I do wonder how the minds of people work. There are lot of buildings lying around and they can only renovate them for residential cum commercial places but instead they choose to plough down uncultivated areas and disturb the cycle of nature and then after years, they would leave them derelict. Then, they would say it's progress...ahhhh..

Buck said...

Lovely sky.

Too bad 'progress' has reached your shores.

BarkerBitesBack said...

Marites they think like this: can I make money from it? And if the answer is yes then they do it, whatever the consequences.
