SIDECAR AT THE TT - ABC

Note the dragon logo

Well if nothing else goes right at least I'm on the right letter of the alphabet this week after the fiasco of r's and q's being all at sea. Sea! Now there is an image I could have had for S but as you'll all probably at little sick(should that be seasick?) of my meandering along the beach scenes I've dragged out a timely S

S for soon will on my fair isle(no not that Fair Isle that's the knitting one ) will be welcoming bikers to our humble shores here, spying the sidecar above . This particular image is from the 2nd lap. Don't try this at home unless you have a decent camera, lens, right equipment, quick fingers, steady hand(tripod for the inexperienced advisable) and years of know how. You know how I always advocate a point and shoot can do a great job, well not here due to the speed. You will need the big guns camera( to handle the top flight speeds) and you will need to be 100% accurate, ie complete focus, no drop out etc if you are selling. Magazines need enormous file sizes too, which are totally unforgiving if you are out in anyway. All shows when you blow up the image. So if you just want a few snapshots and keepsakes carry on with what you have and have fun. If you want to jump into my shoes take 5 years out to play at being a photographer, a lottery win to support you and buy the equipment, starve for your art, practice become, have innate natural ability be zen perfect then... find out that someone like me has already nabbed the best bookings.

Are you sure it wasn't standing still? It looks very professional, which you are of course, duh...

Scary stuff (the photo stuff and the racing stuff!)

Rune Eide said...

That looks dangerous - I think I'll sit in the grass and take life easy.

What a switch from the previous lonely beach scene in monochrome. Wow. Really cool shot.

You are a work of art Babooshka.

c'est un très bon choix, belle photo. En moto, je préfère faire le passager en Side-car que derrière le conducteur.
it is a very good choice, nice photograph. In motorbike, I prefer making the passenger in Sidecar that behind the driver.

Funny description of your "cutthroat" craft. i wouldn't attempt the sidecar with my inadequate camera and equally inadequate skill. It's point and shoot for me!

Z said...

I almost didn't see the second person and was wondering what the side car was for... hehe.

Have fun and may you take prize winning photos!

Perfect! I love the sidecar races. Mine will be up tomorrow.

An excellent choice for S. I am sure that if I attempted such a shot it would just be a big blur !

Jane Hards Photography said...

Z- just ones that pay the bills is the aim, they are more valuable than prize ones.

Gaelyn- It has been said I am a piece of work, but I'll take work of art anytime.

You're always the highlight of my day, particularly when it's been a truly crappy one to begin with, which would describe today! Ok, enough bitchin' and moanin'! It's a terrific shot, but then you know that as well as I do, it's still a terrific shot to the point I almost want to get in that sidecar -- mind you, I said "almost"!
Thanks for the lift of the day!

A great shot of a rider in action. And I know that an action photo is difficult to take with a point- and- shoot camera. I have such a camera. Thanks for sharing and for your visit.

Oh, I'd LOVE a ride in a sidecar, especially if we went VERY fast! lol

Yes, very good! Lol ;)

Well I'll be there in spirit if not person. Will you really help out us out. Yes please. Mine always come out blurred!

As one who's tried you are so right about action photography. That's why for the time being I'm sticking with things that don't move :)

I can smell the petrol on this one. Parliament Square by any chance? Roads are getting busier by the day. keep up the great work.

I have a hard time with flowers with a slight breeze...your photos are amazing!

loved your photography advice!
and the photograph itself is spectacular as usual!

That dude in the sidecar has to be in so awkward positions that it´s not true. Good luck with cutting the throats.

So you weren't laying out in the middle of the track just to get a good shot. LOL MB

I suppose I could have made today's Hyde DP post an ABC wed if I'd titled it slightly different but there's an oblique link to your Swing Bridge series - I should have altered it to link to #20 instead of #19 but I forgot before it scheduled-posted last night so will leave it be.

Stunning job, as you describe it !!!
Your sidecar seems ready to leap!

Always wanted to try a sidecar...

Gorgeous picture! I wish I could do speed shots, in my case of fast dogs, but I'm no good at them. I take too long to set up a shot!

I'm picky about copyright too. You won't see anything on my blog that's not either mine, or has permission granted to post. I lost a friend over it once, but c'est la vie. People who make promises and then steal your stuff ... well, less said, soonest mended! ;)

Thank you for the wonderful post and the great information. I was going to ask about the TT but I will go back and read....! Thank you for sharing.

We have a special interest in one particular sidecar outfit this year as we together with others have helped with funding for bike number 14. Rider Greg Lambert, passenger Dipash Chauhan so do look out for them! If you see the bike you will notice many names on the fairing amongst them Jon Nesbitt Engineering (The Duck)

A great shot; it is very sharp. I keep trying with action shots. I do have a good camera now and a couple of good lenses, but unfortunately can't justify spending the money to buy a fast tele lens. (I do not aim to be a pro photoggrapher; left the run a bit late in life)

Jim Klenke said...

you need to try to get the same spots this year. I see the Isle of Man crest on the bike, I probably wouldnt have noticed last year.

Oh dear... Now you me made me re-think about what I shall do for a living, as I am completely FED UP with my job and career... I love to be by/at the Sea or the River and I love to take photos! I'm not patient, thoufh, and that's why my photos normally stink!! IAC!

Well, I must endure this, at least I am paying taxes for my country (though I really don't know what for anymore...)

Neat choice for ABC Wed.

Great action shot! Fun looking thru your blog snaps! "C is for Caribou" where I am as a new City daily photo blogger. Visit EAGAN daily photo from Minnesota, USA

Steve said...

I hope you do get the same place. If I am not mistaken you were the lass that set my speed for me on my new camera? Cracking photos.

Jane Hards Photography said...

Steve- Sounds like that was me. I do remember adjusting a couple of cameras.

Jim- Yep that's the island's 3 legs.
Hoping to get same spot, bit it can get busy.

Denise-Will have to get the sidecar with the duck on. Best of luck to them.

Ahhh...I so enjoyed this photograph and your commentary. Sidecar was perfect for "S".
I do stop action too, of birds and bugs...
Fast lens and steady hand (I use my yoga practice to stay steady!)makes for fine photos. Creative shots sell too!

How do you get fast to look still.

I think S should be for scary. I don't really like motorbikes anyway, but this looks too much!

At least it's got 3 wheels, so it won't topple over. But I prefer 4 and a comfy seat.

Great shot in all ways! Photography certainly is a cut throat business! Good thing it's not my only one!

Something very new to me.We don't have such 3 wheel machine like in your nice photo:)
Thanks for sharing.

Awesome shot and a side car is perfect for S.

Fabulous shot and excellent advice, Babooshka. Your photos always show how accomplished a photographer you are, and I always appreciate your willingness to share what you've spent years learning.

By the way, I very much like your sea shots too. ;-)

Great picture. Love this race.(although have never seen it in the flesh, so to speak). Congrats on keeping those other boys on their toes, you continue to impress.

Wow. Awesome shot!

Really interesting stuff Babooshka. Thanks for being so generous with your advice. I don't usually read the posts if they're long - I'm here for the photographs I guess - but you'll be glad to know I do read yours!

My point and shoot is often used - but I love my SLR too. Working with them both is good for me.

Enjoy the race.

Jane Hards Photography said...

Hilary I am always constantly surprised to find people actually read through to the bitter end. Not sure I would.

Nice work! Hopeing to make it to your part of the world some day, always wanted to see the TT. I will be at the superbike races at Road America this weekend. Love motorcycles... You are right about the photography business. Most people do not understand how tough it is,
although I would not trade it for anything. You can find my blog at http://glensimages.blogspot.com/
Hope to see you at the TT some day.

Something about a sidecar on a race bike just seems unnatural to me. But you've captured it splendidly.
