WOULD YOU JUMP FROM RAMSEY JETTY?

Ramsey Jetty in perspective.

Still on the beach, well obviously I'm still on the beach as that is the sea and that is the jetty. Would you jump off there though? Now I know you may not think it's a great height but I am talking perspective. You know, it's in the distance far away, will look smaller than the subject in the foreground. Anyway I digress. Would you jump off this jetty into the freezing water below? Me, no, don't be stupid I'm the photographer. I just take images of idiots-I mean brave adventurous types doing this kind of jolly jape. It's called tombstoning in case you didn't know.
I will tell you all about the island and tombstoning, or another time though. Usually cliffs but in the absence of cliffs the kiddies have adopted the Jetty. It is the Isle of Man, we improvise.

I was going to finish the beach walkabout today but I've a few more you can have.  For those interested in the photo graphical(is that even a word two words?) aspect of today's image please note this totally ignores rule of thirds, but is more concerned with composition and optical illusion of the lighthouse. I am not spoon feeding you today with the intricacies of photography. You can work things out for yourselves by now, I have faith in you. Like the bridge and the pier the jetty is another static subject for a photo series. I like things that don't move and and don't speak. Perfect subjects. No quibbling.

Please excuse the lack of facebook input tonight. I will make amends tomorrow.

For those who follow the blog it's Friday and we know what that means. Southern Comfort.
For UK reader perspective Father Ted Episode - Far away/ cows/ Dougal.

No I would not jump off, but that is an interesting angle you shot the image at and it really works.

No thanks, I prefer not to jump. But it does look like an interesting place to see.

Nice composition, but no thanks to jumping off the jetty.

I would have to have a very good reason to jump off the jetty, or perhaps a very large cash prize. The thought makes my knees weak. Great perspective on the photo.

No I would NOT jump into that water or any water for that matter. Interesting shot though and I missed the lighthouse 'til you mentioned it. MB

like the way the jetty takes your eyes to the lighthouse! beauty!

Maybe at high tide then I would consider it. Does the sea break through the square holes in a storm? That would look good.

No thanks, I'd rather jump into bed. Are you serious about the southern comfort??? I have BAD memories of that stuff.

Have a good weekend.

Great blog!

I've jumped off the breakwater, not the one in your photograph, but off the Southern one, then climbed up the giant steps and did it all again!! LOL
That was a loooooooong time ago on a very hot summer.

If I would jump?
Into the freezing water?
Hum ... and no one would be on the beach waiting with some hot cup of tea and a ton of blankets?
Hum, hum ... and how deep is the water?
And from where does the wind blow ...

I don't jknow if you see, but I'm just trying to get me some more time to run like hell out of there! :)

But the angle is fine. Yes it is.

Yep in the summer time I would jump. Looks very inviting. There is something quite magical about lighthouses. Don't know why but for me there is.
Enjoy your evening.

Cool photo *and* a Father Ted reference. What's not to like?!

Not for me jumping into the Irish sea. It's really cold.
You make the most boring object interesting.

Nice composition! At first I thought it was a submarine... :-) I would not jump, too cold for me!

Heck no, I wouldn't jump!!

Nope, I definately would not jump. It looks high enough from where I'm sitting and I know if I were standing on top of it looking down, it would look even higher. And with the name "tombstoning" hmmm, no thanks!
Great photo though!
Have a wonderful weekend :)

fabulous shot as always. My husband and I love your talent and are glad you share it through this website. We love going through the photos from all over the world. Your compositions are amazing. All of you have motivated me to start my own site. We''ll see how it goes from out West.

this too will pass said...

it would take a leap of the imagination to do that

Yes, the angle makes this so impressive although I'm sure it's an impressive jetty anywhere and no, I wouldn't jump off.

Babooshka, just saw it was your 300 days anniversary a day or so ago, so a late congratulations! Soon be one year...

Your camera perspective makes this jetty look like a huge and formidable fortress ... I wouldn't jump off it ... :D

Tombstoning doesn´t sound like my hobby, sorry.

When I´m drunk I might do it.

This is an impressive angle shot....no wonder you are published!!! nice one.

I'd vote for No, definately I'm not jumping of from anything. And most definately I'm not jumping into anything that looks to near freezing point and I mean the ocean there.

That jetty looks impressive in spite of the lack of reference, as you say. Do they jump off that! It looks rather inaccessible. I love the sea and I don't fear it much but cliffs or high structures next to black deep and rough waters give me the jitters.

No way! I have a phobia of deep, wide water. It's all I can do to enjoy the beauty of the bay in San Francisco without getting freaked out by the bridge and all the deep expanse beneath it. Yet, if my feet are firmly planted in sand, on the shore, I'm fine.

Tina said...

that looks far too scary for me lol

Mojo said...

Hard to get a sense of how high that is, but my guess is... no way!

But I wouldn't mind seeing it from this angle or from the top for that matter -- with a camera of course!
