Skywatch
A magical Manx sky in Ramsey, The Polly Dooey Nature Reserve. A very low ground image looking towards the last remnants of the setting sun. That's the colour of the sky as it was. No alterations whatsoever. Perhaps it's so colourful due to the Fenodyree.
Fenodyree.
A Shy loyal creature who works the land. In return he askd for food and clothing. Don't upset him though my giving him clothing he does'nt approve of. he may leave you for pastures new.
Another snippet of this bonkers island with it's strange tales. I can think of a least two major selling books that have used a version of the Fenodyree. Let you work out which.

ciel magique, avec des couleurs magnifiques.
magical sky, with magnifiques colours.
Some lovely colors you got there.
The Fenodyree sound like the elves that helped the cobbler in those German fairy tales.
Intriguing colours! May I suggest "The Hobbit" for one?
PS I can't see that you have posted your RAW-file from the EXIF-data... ;-)
Magical sky! What beautiful colours! Interesting tale of the fenodyree.
Have a great weekend.
Runee. - It's converted from Raw to jpeg then re sized very small for the blog. My Raw files are over 5MB, way too big for the blog.
Happy SWF!Great photo!
Wonderful post as usual, great photo and colour + your fantastic stories.
How very lovely! And the grasses in the foreground give the perfect depth
The fairies at the bottom of our garden went missing for two years.
Asking "why"? The head Goblin explained they had been 'Called up' For National Elf Service.
Beaut Pics.
Very entertaining and breathetaking.
Love the title, thought it's perfect for the photo.
Splendid photo. I like the composition and the colours, of course, are amazing. They are so vivid and inspiring.
I also like the story of Fenodyree a lot. Your skywatches have always something more in them that the photos:-)
Have a nice weekend.
Bonjour Faries.
It's very dramatic, maybe too dramatic to be caused by such a self effacing creature..
Lovely sky..
Strong sunset pinks and love your story of the Fenodyree. Brilliant!
First let me echo the amazement and adoration of those who came before me. This is truly an arresting photograph! But I have a question. Actually two. The light at ground level looks like it might have come from a flash. So question 1 is "did it?" and question 2 is "what was the purpose behind it?" those aren't meant to be critical, I'm really curious on both points. I have much to learn in this discipline, and I've found that asking such questions is the surest way to do that.
Stunning! Love the contrast in the colours and the textures. Superb!
Stunning. Fascinating folklore too.
Beautiful! The low ground angle is very effective and how the lighted front grass...
;-)
All these mystical creatures on the Isle Of Man, I'm surprised there is any room for humans!
Pretty sky :)
Mojo -It was a flash for one reason. It was a spur of the moment shot at 10.15pm at night. No time to adjust the setting or the light would have faded to black. Simply in order to get the colours I bounced the light off the flash onto the meadow to bounce back the colours, which is why the shot is low to the ground. You can ask anytime. Only the trolls can't.
... and beyond... wow! Striking capture. I am moved by it. I can't imagine how it was in person! Awesome stuff.
Magical! :-)
Love the sky, and the colors of blues, pinks, reds and yellows .
Gorgeous colors! and I love the story of the Fenodyree! Thanks as always and have a great weekend!
Whoa! Breathtaking. Love the last peep of sun glinting through the trees.
The Manx folklore is very interesting reading!
Great picture to accompany a fairy tale. I love both!
That is definitely a magical sky. The colors are fantastic and I also enjoyed the island lore.
SHEESH!! That color is fantastic!! WOW... I love it! What a great photo....

Mountain Retreat
Yep, a magical scene indeed, with the colours in the sky and the beautifully lit grass in the foreground. I could well imagine fairies living in a landscape like that.
Amazing shot and very nicely framed.
Happy weekend!
Great sky picture. This is the picture that I like. The color is beautiful.
What a magnificent sunset and an interesting composition! Also enjoyed the story of the Fenodyree.
I missed you not playing skywatch recently. Back with a bang.
Sorry, Homestay for 2009. Do you know anything about it a website or people offering? Many Thanks for taking time out.
Lovely photo - the colors are incredible. I love hearing folk tales from different places. Do you suppose there's a being similar to a Fenodyree that does housework?
Babooshka: I think that is a wonderful color in the sky and I can see why you would think it is magical.
Amazing and inspiring colors. I believe that it was that way. Light is a magical element.
Wonderful shot...
Amazing and inspiring colors...
Thanks for sharing...
Happy sky watch:)
Beautiful sky---great grasses---wonderful story. MB
Beautiful pink sky colour
I'll gladly provide some clothing if a Fenodyree will mow my grass for me. :) It's January and I truly need to break out the lawn mower and cut the yard Ah, Florida...
Sherbet colored sunsets and sunrises - I'm a sucker for those!
Hello Babooshka!
This is an amazing photo. I love the colors you captured!! Happy SWF...
At first I thought it was a painting. What a masterpiece!
What a marvelous picture. If the Fenodyree are responsible they are great to have around. Do they ever appear in the U.S.?
I came by way of your blog researching my Manx relatives. A Canadian, I understand that Quayle is a Manx family name but to my knowledge I no of none in the family fold way back. I have emailed with a brief rundown and wondered if you could take a look at some suggestions I have about the connection. It looks like a pretty place I hope there is a connection.
Pattie Sherman (nee Quayle)
I strive to have such beautifully colored photographs!
Beautiful colors. We had a sunset like that this week. I tried to photograph it, but the color didnt show up as bold.
Awesome photo. I just love all the color in the sky lately. Did you use a strong flash to get such light in the grass? I am trying to learn to do night shots. And my camera will not allow me to shoot on automatic. I changed it too 800 iso and still not what I want. It was trying to photograph a skunk of all things I was trying to capture. I know I am crazy. But We encountered a number of then this last summer. And I will not get close enough to have good flash of light on them. lol.
Have a great week

were you looking for crop circles out there?
Beautiful colors....and crop circles is pretty funny after reading your blog!!!!
Such great energy! Wonderful shot.
I somehow think it was the foreground flash that helped the effect rather than the Fenodyree, but then, who am I to judge?
I could never get tired of this sunset all day!
That is one gorgeous capture Babooshka. Very interesting with the flash of grass in the foreground. And the story of the Fenodyree, I have never heard, is enchanting. Thank you for sharing!
another WOWER from you!
I love the dark pink in your photograph as it contrasts with the dark blue skies. Fabulous.
Whoa! What a wide range of colors in this single shot!
If I didn't know you were so hard and fast against altered images, I would guess some Photoshop had been applied alright, but I know it's simply Babooshka magic, not even Fenodyree, just good ol' Magica Babooshka!
Absolutely stunning SWF post!
Great contrast between the purple of the sky and the green of the grass.
Good morning Babooshka! Wonderfully coloured photo! I am impressed and not only that, I am overwhelmed by the beauty of both sky and earth! Thanks for sharing I love your tales of the Isle of Mann. Is there a book about tales from Mann for instance?
What a breathtaking beautiful purple sky !!
Your pictures have so much depth to them, simply wonderful.
You already know I hold your writing in high regard and as usual it is of the best.
Happy New Year to you.

Beautiful picture with nice colors and a beautiful light. I love the low point of view.
Have a great weekend!
Beautiful!
Nature outdid itself on painting that sky.
Your pictures get another dimension when look at,
while reading your "tales stories"!!
Just that little noun "Fenodyree" makes the imagination wander...
A nordic "troll" like me doesn't know much enough about Celtic folklore and other litterary references to see which books you are referring to. Will you tell us?
Wow very beautiful photo for SWF. The colours of the sky is amazing. Have a nice weekend.
What a beautiful sky and sunset! The colors are just astonishing. That is an interesting tale of the Fenodyree. Sounds like the basis for those little creatures in Harry Potter that become free if you give them clothes.
Wow!!!magical sky,that was beautiful.
Happy Sky wathcer & have a nice day.
fantastic colors!!
I wish to you and your family all the best for the new year
oh..it must be those creatures...
lovely sunset!
Amazing shot, I love it!
What fantastic colors.
lovely sky, and amazing at 10 p.m.
looks like something might jump out of that long grass, and not a fenodyree. Guess I must be over-caffeinated.
catching up on blogs after a short absence...
Stunning sunset B. You seem to be able to find them a lot in your area. I liked your discussion on the photo below as well. Always food for thought at this blog!!
V
Mary- Well done, yes one of the books is from the Harry Potter series.
Peter- It's Nordic and Celts here, I may have to reveal the other book if no one gets it.
Ken Mac- Now you've got me thinking about those crop circles. I'll just have to create them and claim ufo's.
Cheers all again. Nice to be appreciated.
Virginia that is spooky I am on my way to your blog. Weird.
Beautiful!!!
B,
Well always glad to have your company and your thoughts!
wow, the colors are fantastic!

I'll be brief for a change.
Utterly stunning!
that really is beautiful
The sky does look fabulous, B! And the vocab? I would never have known that if it was not for your post. Thanks.
Oh what a lovely description of the Fenodyree. Never even heard of it during my years in England. Who would not have their own little Fenodyree living nearby.
Such a glorius sunset must be the workings of several Fenodyrees.
I simply love the contrast between the flaming sky and the light green of the grass floating into to a grey shade and the line of the dark trees dividing these two fields.
Great shot! I love this pink sky!
Love the mix of colours
Your tale reminds me of a certain house elf ;)
Lovely shot!
A great capture and amazing colors.
Magical is a spot on description. The colour is just beautiful!
Babooshka, Your pictures never fail to Amaze me, Great Photography, love the color!!!
Wow, those are amazing sunset colors. I love the setting with the grasses in the foreground. The Fenodyree is an interesting legend. Wonder how these things get started?
Beautifully shot and just so lovely pinks
this shot is 'other worldly' WOW, and 109 comments, another WOW.
Just showed hubby your pretty sky!
He would like to know if it is still day light about 10pm in May.
It used to be in the late 60's early 70's ?.....
From Ramsey Key into the town there is a street named after use...lol begins with C...
He used to spend 2 weeks a year, last week in May and first week in June...and enjoyed every second...
It won't be long before we come over again....
Stunning use of colour in this photo. Thanks for your regular contributions to Sky Watch Friday it makes for a real bright spot in our week.
BEAUTIFUL PHOTO!!
have a nice weekend!!
An excellent shot and a charming tale.
Dina -It usually is duky light in May about 10pm especially when we have a blue sky day. Not that often. Now need to find that street.
Breathtaking! Not only are the colors beautiful, but I love the angle.
Kim
What can I say at comment 117 that hasn´t been said before? There must be a fairie in the flashlight somewhere if I look really closely.
Amazing how a picture of "nothing", just grass and sky can be so interesting. Really beautiful captivating shot.
Wow...what an amazing sky! And it almost looks as though the ground and sky are from two different scenes. Very nice! :o)
gorgeous sky!
Holy cow! Batman
