Monochrome Odd Shots- A bird in the hand

Bird onto hand transplant is a roaring success

Monochrome Odd shots

I don't usually like two bird images together, yesterday and today but I'm being rather lazy this weekend having a clear out. The back garden birds are also going a little winter mad. To be fair to them I don't think they are flying at the windows on a suicide mission this week but to get away from a very naughty cat who is going to get his backside squirted with water if I see him. Clumsy cat clattered into the patio windows leaving a great big dirty cat sized mark. Be warned kitty kat I will get you if harm one feather of my garden birds.

Sandi, asked yesterday what the bird was on the sidebar image. It's the same as this one as European siskin. Really cute birds and feisty but for migrating birds, no sense of direction. That's how I end up coaxing these little sweeties round again after they knock themselves out. The bird lover in me is helping them, but the dark side the photographer, just can't help going for those one handed photographs. Never one to miss an opportunity I always keep my portrait lens close to hand in the house for these close images. What's worse confessions of being a secret bird spotter or a "anything to get the photo" photographer.

Will get back to the business of the blog tomorrow, anything goes good or bad and the ugly images of Ramsey. Going for realism this week, or as some of you know the search for white dog poo which I won't find or buildings instead. This is a serious photography project, stop laughing.

This is a impressive catch.

That's such a touching shot of the little bird. For some reason it makes me emotional looking at it.

A lovely photo, you are lucky they are so tame.

Babs. Sure you don't throw a net over them? Sweet.

I'm trying to imagine if I could hold a camera and hold a bird AND take a great shot like that. Nope. Wouldn't happen.

HI B. It's so darned cute.

I wondered how you managed to get that guy to sit still like that. I've taken plenty of one-handed shots, but never one like this.

As for the white dog poo... I guess art is where you find it!

That is very nice!

A capture in more ways than one. Poor birdy for getting banged up; lucky birdy for having a savior.

I wondered why the tiny bird had a dazed look. Thanks for your explanation. As for whether or not you're a mercenary photographer (my characterization of what you wrote), I'd have to holler a resounding, "No!" What I believe you are is a photographer not the least bit put off by serendipity, in any shape or form, at any speed, no matter the weather or the light. Congrats, Babooshka. And thanks!

I told my cats not to chase birds, but I am not so sure if they obey when I turn around !
Such a cute little featherball !
Sometimes it happens here too, a bird flying against our window door, (apparently my window is too clean) and I have to rescue it until it wakes up and can fly away.

You don't have to choose either to be a bird spotter or an excellent photographer, Babooshka.
You get 2 hands to be two at a time. And you managed to take a touching picture. This little bird doesn't seem to be scary, as if he had understood that in your hands, cats won't approach.

Such a little sweetie, but I had to laugh at the mental image of birds kamikaziing your window. I'm glad they aren't getting hurt doing it though.

I always use that as an excuse for cleaning the windows only two times a year. Poor birds. Lovely photo.

Hope he recovered and learnt to be more careful. Occasionally a bird will fly into out conservatory window and leave this great outline of its body.

See you went to the nail bar before you took the picture!

I am glad we get far less of that now. Birds flying into the window from the feeder makes you feel like you have laid a trap. Horrid.

Not that good friends birds and cats, but you got a beautiful shot.
Have a nice week, and maybe you will find something black and something white.

Remarkable to photograph a bird sitting in your hand. It looks like you are holding a fluffy tennis ball.

I will be posting a very different type of bird in about an hour -- an anhinga with his wings outstretched to dry his feathers in the sun.

Great little bird, a one handed shot eh ?..cool!...I wish I could stun some here...Or at least nail Blue Tit feet to a coconut (Thats done it now, Bill Oddie WILL be after me ) LOL !!! Plus the cat has taken to eating Bird seed...which is not helping in this matter at all. Have a great Day :0)

Poor little bird....but it looks safe on your hand.

White dog poo? I think that would mean there is one very sick dog around. I have to wish you bad luck on that one.

In addition to an amazing eye for the perfect composition, you have a talent for clever post titles ... a winning combo!

I love your bird-rescue photos, and this is another beauty. Lucky bird, too.

I need an urgent meeting with your surgeon! I need a siskin on my chin!

Aww...he's sooo cute. I admire birds, but can't even get the so-called tame ones to perch on my finger, talk, etc.

Poor little birds..handle with care!!!
Thanks for the visit & have a nice day.

That's just sweet!

I like this, it's a fantastic picture, looks so peaceful. I have an idea for this picture which might improve it slightly, it's an experimental idea, but how about keeping the background in black and white, but giving the bird back its original colour? Just an idea, but a great shot either way!

A very unique shot!
Very nice.

great capture and your swan the day earlier was excellent also. A bird in the hand . . .

Anonymous said...

Awwww. How great that you got it to sit on your hand like that.

I remember this little tweetie getting a helping hand from you last year, Babooshka. If it weren't for the coloring, as seen in the sidebar photo, I would have guessed it was a house sparrow. A cutie in any case!

Think I'd be trying to rescue little birds like this too if in your situation. Don't see too many birds like this in central London. Although I did see my very first Robin on Monday when it was snowing.

I only now saw your Sunday post with the swan! Fantastic! Somehow you have two b&w phtos here - with exception for the beak of the swan of course!

Cheers all. As you can see I am taking long breaks in between stopping by the blog. Troy- Everyone know I'm the world's laziest photographer and like to get the shot straight off. Like your idea, done that with a Red admiral butterfly, but me and photoshop are not best of friends.

He looks so cold.

The idea of a migratory bird that has no sense of direction is both odd and hilarious. Poor thing!

Love your shot though. He's so cute :)
