L - IS FOR LAND MARK? HA! HA!

I can see for miles and miles

ABC This week is brought to you by the letter L

Especially for Mrs Nesbitt( we are not worthy!) and her impending visitation upon this fair Isle (no not the other island) during the TT I thought this image would suit. I have put aside the proper photography to do a quick snapshot daily photo thingy. After all the blog is all about my town not "ooh look at the wall hanging photography." I do think some people forget this. Digressing again. I had to sneak this image on a busy road so didn't want to draw to much attention by composing(yawn) the image and juxtaposing(yawn again) the subjects. I have not put aside the puns, irony and humour though, so if you are of a sensible disposition who cannot(or will not) have a little photography, blogging fun, please leave. No apologises for the "landmark" pun title though. Hope it was a L of a laugh.

This marker in keeping with the L is on Lezayre Road. Ramsey is in the Parish of Lezayre incidentally. The three legged symbol you see is the Manx Triskelion that appears on our flag. This marker is roughly half way from my house to the town high street. Ok I mean my nearest local pub, The Swan. We have lots of quirky little things like this I around the island. I do think that some of those figures may be a little on the wrong side. No way would I be walking a mile back from the pub! So Mrs N. Especially for you a little guide to confuse you. Click on the pretty colours below to place this sign and to see a very ingenious map of the island. Naughty but nice! As for the Triskelion well that's a whole other tale, for another day.

If abc is the place to be check Mrs Nesbitt's bloggie blog.

Always remember it's for fun. So play nice with each other.

Babooshka can be found working 17 miles away this week

  1. I know this milestone. In fact I took the same image about a year ago. Distance wise I don't think it's too far out at all.

  4. I think my your description of where you live it is approx 3/4 mile. Not sure Castletown is right. Depends which way you go to Douglas. I had forgotten about this marker. Thanks for the reminder.

  5. It's been years since I actually saw a ``milestone'' by the side of the road, but they were a big part of my childhood.

Glad you liked my L post and photos. Thank you for the generous comment.

  8. Would love to know more about that Triskelion. At first glance, it looked like a two-legged chair running for its life!

  9. I am excited..I am up in the top 10 of comments tonight...GG..I enjoyed seeing your hangout and the map of the island. Sometimes I wish I lived on an island without other people. I believe there would be less to rant about and please do feel free to rant on any post on my blog. You should hear me ranting at the idiocy of these people. There is a reason that I live in an area with the highest levels of multiple sclerosis in the US and high levels of breast cancer, lupus and thyroid disease. There are toxic waste dumps all over. We even have some from the Manhattan project developing nuclear weapons during the second world war..I say the little chickadee with the deformed bill that I found was trying to tell me something and that is that we are killing ourselves...well..I guess that would be my rant. Sorry about that...Michelle

  10. What a talent you have for taking what is ordinary in your world and showcasing it for the rest of the world.

  14. B,
You crack me up. How do you keep up with it all? Do you ever sleep? Well I come here for the fast paced craziness and I'd like a sip of JD while I'm here. Got any seltzer and ice to go in it?

  18. Wonderful marker, Babooshka! We have markers or milestones, which we call "mushrooms" they have a funny shape, and on four sides you can read the directions to various places and the distances. Thanks for your visit. Next time I am going to explain how the grassroofs work.

    Another clever post for 'L'.

  20. Good 'L'. The word 'landmark' reminds me of my grandfather, who used the word repeatedly when we were out for a Sunday drive. For him, a landmark was an old barn, a crooked tree, and rarely the 'real' kind.

  21. Sort of feels like being out searching for a leprechaun! Babooshka is out there somewhere, last sighted at milestone....................

  22. I have heard of the word milestone before, but never really knew where the name came from. DUH. Looks like it would be hard to read from a passing car.

  24. Great song! And "quirky" was exactly the word I was looking for when I saw this marker. What a curious thing to stumble across, eh?

As always, a fabulous shot though!

  26. Ah, landmark. Very good for the letter L. It's always fun to learn a bit more about the Isle of Man.

  27. A snapshot is always good (I wouldn't have had a post today otherwise!)

  28. Hope there are not too many roads as I would miss this sign post.

  30. Oh, "The Swam", the local pub on the High Street. How I miss it. Grace don't drink and don't smoke, thus pub is not her favorite. But I always like to have a pint, it is so British.

  31. i love the marker - a little exotic for us on my island, but very lively

  32. So this is a Landmark of a post? Landed us in the middle of a Laughing Pub? Or have I Left out something.

Oh well, I'll Leave well alone...

  33. You depicted "L" in this beautiful landmark!
