Monochrome Odd Shots
Still full of a horrid virus. Images will be what you get this week, so not perfect images at all. This was not really for the blog but personal use, just a snapshot of the place with cars and people, life in the town. What the hell it's amusing. Can you see why? Actually there are a number of odd things about this image, besides the obvious, Aladdin's Cave which is an oxymoron. It might have been a treasure trove at one time, but not anymore. Before anyone mentions the Auction Rooms, no that would not be now. That's about it too full of horrid virus. If you enlarge it you should be able to read the writing on the wall( no pun intended) and a few other close up slice of life images.
I am sure I will be bryter later ( and yes that is an intended spelling mistake)

Like I said this image was not intended for the blog. It's what I'll call a rough, untampered, journalistic workaday image taken primarily to check the light, distance, white balance and lens compatibility etc. It's the image you take before you take the real image. Think of this as an artist's sketch,a jotting, a doodle a prelude to the finished article. Perhaps that's also odd to post a sketch rather than the finished article.

A street called Temperance Terrace, a car wanting its seatbelts used, nature quietly taking back a building, a woman engrossed in a paper - did she see you? - someone sloping around a corner and is that a ghost in the middle-row-second-from-right-window? It's all happenin' here!
ReplyDeletelots of fun oddities here..."proceeds with.." enquiring minds want to know. fun odd shot.
ReplyDeletelike the pic it´s so many detail in that.
ReplyDeleteIt may be a test shot, but I was surprised at the detail once I clicked it up to large. What sorta gear do you use?
ReplyDeleteGet well soon. And as they do here in Ireland a couple of Hot Wiskey's should do the trick.
ReplyDeleteI thnk I might do more of these for the blog, Non slae images, which means I am happy to post larger files. Good idea or not? It's a Nikon D50 and me. I like Nikons.
ReplyDeleteI really like this shot. The building works so well in black and white. I hope you get over the virus soon. Being sick is no fun.
ReplyDeleteWell, I do like your artist's sketch, works well in b/w and I particulary like the lady reading the paper in the foreground.
ReplyDeleteI hope you will be feeling better soon, these virus' are no fun.
It is a Tour De Force and so French in it's attitude.
ReplyDeleteWishes to you to be on the mend quickly!
ReplyDeleteWell, hell, it ain't a bad shot! In fact, sometimes these turn out pretty good...like this one. Lot's of interest here and the composition is good...I like the woman reading and the car moseying by...
ReplyDeleteYou've not been listening, either: I said "Get well!"
Seriously, I hope you're feeling better soon; I just recovered from a miserable few weeks with thingy that wouldn't go away!
Which gets the bigger crowds - the Plough or the Temperance Terrace? Hope your virus goes away soon.
ReplyDeleteOdd indeed and so it fits. MB
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful shot Babooshka. I especially enjoyed enlarging this. I love the shiny haired woman sitting down reading. Overall it's a lovely composition with something interesting to look at in every corner. Nice job.
ReplyDeleteOh, this picture gives a strong sense of mystery and shock.

Another building that looks as though it has seen better days. Sound a little like yourself at the mo... get well soon.
ReplyDeleteI can see another beauty in monochrome..
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day.
Simple but efficient, I tried to read the news paper of the lady !
ReplyDeleteHope you get rid of your virus soon, that's terrible !
un superbe b&w (surtout la composition avec la dame sur le banc) gâcher (pour moi) par ton copyright au centre de la photo ;o(
ReplyDeletea superb b*w (especially composition with the lady on the bench) to spoil (for me) by your copyright in the centre of the photograph ;o(
It is a real photograph of Ramsey, run down and over. An honest capture.
ReplyDeleteA cave is where you find one, but I hope Aladdin had gone. But I agree - names and places don't always match.
ReplyDeleteTake care!
I hope that your Aloe Vera Kleenex are treating your nose well!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like an old, old photo, but I mean that as a compliment! Reminds me of scenes from our vacations in New England. Like the composition.
ReplyDeleteJust catching up after a week away, some great shots as always
ReplyDeleteHope you're feeling better. The big white structure looks inviting and foreboding at the same time.
ReplyDeleteI LIKE IT. IT HAS A VERY OLDWORLDLY FEEL TO IT..
ReplyDeleteHey, some great masters' sketches of their paintings are worth millions now too!
ReplyDeleteI must say that I love that 'temperance terrace' — whatever it is.
Temperance Terrace? WTF?
ReplyDeleteGreat shot Babooshka, hope you feel better soon!
I'll bet this building has never before had such attention. The test shot turns out to be full of intrigue. My favorite part is the woman reading the paper. There is a real story there somewhere....

I'm not sure which seems more out of place - Aladdin's Cave or the other sign - Chrystals. It certainly looks like the building that prosperity forgot.
ReplyDeleteHope you're feeling much better soon.
nice entry for both!
ReplyDeleteAn abandoned house waiting for better days.
ReplyDeleteAn old woman waiting for the first sunrays of the season, that she has found.
I wish you to feel better soon, Babooshka. To find consolation ; as long as they're not computer virus. Yours are treatable.
I like these type of shots 'cause they are similar to the ones I normally post on my site capturing Ramsey as it is. A little piece of history. Nothing glamorous in most places where people live their normal day to day lives and this is captured perfectly. Love the old lady reading her newspaper. Did you know that this area where the seats are and the Millennium stone is, is called locally...The Gas Gardens?
ReplyDeleteI hope you are feeling bryter...
ReplyDelete(what's in a word) lol.
I like Aladdin's cave looks ideal for a rummage...:-)
An honest shot, Babooshka! Sometimes it's nice to see places as they really are, ;-) Get well. You've been sick long enough! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI remember when you could buy bargains here and it was a treasure trove. Happy days.
ReplyDeleteA nice "sketch"! :-)
ReplyDeleteI just think its neat you caught a local in the picture.
ReplyDeleteThis is both a nice and a odd shot.
ReplyDeleteI love it.
Continue with large images and have a nice photo week. :)
Nice clean, interesting narrative piece. Here's to a brYter you. Get well soon.
ReplyDeleteMight not be a particularly photogenic picture, but it makes for a useful social document. I too was amused at Temperance Terrace. Is that where all the teetotalers lived?
ReplyDeleteThat was really fun!
ReplyDeleteA lot to seek out and find in such an unassuming shot!
Glad you are resting ...with the computor~
Great post! Big smile ;-)
ReplyDeleteReally hope you feel better soon.
Sketches are useful. Helps us see the process. Hope you start feeling better soon. Lots of sneezing out on the London streets at the moment. Spring I spose.
ReplyDeleteIt is a good mono shot, the building really stands out against that sky.
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better very soon.
I like the balance, and the railings in the distance by those steps.
ReplyDeleteBe well B!
I would venture that Aladdin's Cave is overnamed.V
ReplyDeleteShe looks like my nanna it's not she lives in Port Erin.
ReplyDeleteOdd for you to post a sketch, perhaps. For some of us it's pretty run of the mill.
ReplyDeleteI think it's 'Bryter Layter'. Not that I'm being pedantic or anything! :-) Lovely post. Cheers.
