We are up to 15/100 of how to shoot one subject a zillion ways(well 100 ways) as challenged by Joe who probably has given up, as I never see a comment or received another email off him. Anyway the cult of Babooshka's Ramsey Swing Bridge continues. You only have yourselves to blame. This was second on the most requested things to see on the blog.
The bridge is a good subject to use the little no frills point and shoot olympus. It does have manual setting (they all do be brave have a go) but no extra lenses. Went for a nice tight close up in yer face close up. Right on the harbour edge. Do you have any idea the life and limb I risk to get you these images? I may have to start hanging off the bridge when I get seriously creative, and subsequently arrested for abusing a bridge to causing a disturbance of some kind. No cropping needed as I was so close in. Tried not to make this too tidy and image to bring out those lines and layers. Dullish blue sky which was OK as it allowed the red and cream to zing.
I'm going to concentrate on a few building next week. I do say few with good reason. Ramsey is not a city. It is a town. Not quite one horse town, but teeny weeny. One high st, one shopping square, but lots of pubs. Not an awful lot but I'll show and tell for you the little there is. You'll see why I shop online put it that way. Had you even heard of the Isle of Man before you stopped by here? I'd be interested to know.

Thats a nicely painted bridge, and its paid off for the town with it being so photogenic. Of course a Kiwis heard of the Isle of Man from the motorbike racing now on youtube and from the Top Gear show.

ReplyDeleteBy the way I had heard of the Isle of Man before I came across your site. I like history and collect stamps. The Isle of Man came up in both areas.

That does look vaguely dangerous. Be careful. Blogging is more dangerous than fire fighting at times, and usually doesn't come with the same medical benefits.

And in answer to the question you posed in your narrative, No, I had never heard of isle of Man until I visited your site. Your photos are profound and create a beautiful image of your home island. Does the real thing match the expectations of your photos? BTW, thanks for your message on my website about coffee and tea. I actually have never drank coffee. hard to believe. Tea is my thing.
ReplyDeleteI do find it quite amazing sometimes how people have never heard of the Isle of Man and how they think towns like Ramsey, Hyde, Cheltenham and others are big cities rather than towns. Still we do our best to inform them.

That's a good one. A bridge like that has so many lovely lines and angles, and the colour is a great bonus here. Bridges are fun!

ReplyDeleteThere are a few things I could shoot 100 different ways I suppose. Might have to try this out myself if I find a suitable subject.
Anyway, I'm glad you decided to pick up the challenge because this is marvelous! Clicking on the label gave me the other 14 plus a few bonuses and they're all magnificent!

ReplyDeleteAbout the Isle of Man, I'd heard of it before coming upon your superb blog. I can't put a finger on when or where, but I imagine it must have been in a book. Reading has always been one of my favorite hobbies. Do you think that might have been a possibility? However, once I got interested in your blog, I had to look it up on a map and was surprised to find in on that side of whatever the proper term is for that big island with London on it.
