Lone Swan - Critters

Me Myself I

The photo I wanted to upload I can't find to hand it's late so I've just grabbed this one. It's back in the harbour. The lonesome swan was swimming towards the wall that separates the harbour from the park lake. Is it me or can you make out a face in those feathers. Maybe it's me.

The harbour is always full of swans so they are always a fall back option to post. I'm busy sorting through tonnes of images, especially bird photographs at the moment, particularly swans. I have that many now I may be tempted to let the odd freebie go to a good home. Have to think about that one.  I like this one very much on a personal level, how white the swan is against the darkened water, but it's a little arty and bold for the gallery I'm planning. It will make sense when you see it.  Have to see how the credit crunch is affecting this photographer to see if I can let a few images go then. This is one I am debating about for the new website. So many swans so little space. Somethings gotta give.

I'm keeping this short and sweet tonight. Going to pour myself a drink, take a break and then plough on with the clear out. Maybe even update Facebook. To all you "budding" photographers out there have fun and don't be bitter, there's plenty of images to go round and advise.i  More critters can be found at Misty Dawn's if you just click here

  3. For a last minute grab, this is a great image!!

I see a dogs nose, mouth and eye in the shadows of the end feathers. But I grew up looking for shapes in clouds with my sister - how many kids to you see doing that these days?!

I appreciate you dropping by my cc post for the week. I was pleased that that "crap" that went down on my post didn't deter you from coming back ;)

  7. So effective composition

    Wonderful!

  8. That's a fascinating composition. Most of us would have centered the swan in the frame, probably myself included. This way lends SO much more interest.

    Marvelous as always!

  9. Babs. I see this in advertising over on one side. I will try this. How do you focus the swan though in manual if it's not centre? Lot to learn still. Any tips as always appreciated.

  10. This is a very beautiful photo of the swan. I love spending time with swan. Once I had two swan from afar swam so fast towards me, it was a pleasant sight. I should have taken a video of them swimming towards me.

  14. Babooshka: Swans are such a beautiful bird but they are rather mean.

  15. This picture may have been a second choice, but it is beautiful.

  16. love your photo! the contrast between the black & white is stunning...how's that for a cat's perspective?

  21. Surely this has to be a keeper. It's stunning.
I love swans, their beauty, grace and loyalty (and bad temper)

  22. Love how the swan dominates and fills half the image, leaving the waters to create an enigmatic space in the other!

And I see a tiny sleeping baby with bonnet curled up in the tail feathers! I too loved watching clouds as a child and imagining!

  24. Okay, after our conversation on facebook, which I hope you've read my reply?

I like this, the swan almost looks angelic in the shrouded darkness of the water, I particularly like the composition and angle, the slightly offset birds eye view works fantasticly for this picture.

  25. Wonderful photo! The white swan against the dark water is beautiful indeed. Can see no face however. And I've really, really looked for it. Ah well.

(and our cats and dogs are really great friends, so no human intervention was needed for my CC-photos :-) and thanks for the other comment too, see...it really helps ;-))

  26. That is lovely. Lone swans always make me sad as they mate for life. I am telling myself that this ones mate is away in the bushes building the nest!

  27. What a beautiful swan all by herself. Hope she finds a mate. It does look really nice with that black background!

  28. I love that shot, it jumps right out of the screen at you

  29. Your swan is very clear and pure against the dark background. I happen to have thousands of swan pictures myself. I think because they fascinate me . I think it's a beautiful bird and it's never boring to see it.

  30. I like this, it feels as if the picture has something missing as if you are looking for something else perhaps another swan to fill the void.

  31. Beautiful bird and original angle of view !
Do you want to play with me and HPY:
The rule is very plain : choose in your sixth album the sixth photo , describe it, and choose six other bloggers to go on ...
(There is a link on my blog towards HPY's blog)

  32. made even lovelier on that black- what is that little bird on the right sidebar??

    ReplyDelete
  33. I really like this angle; it's so unusual to be nose to nose with a swan so to speak!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I very much like this swan photo. It would make a lovely greeting card of some sort, with a quotation written on the right...

    ReplyDelete
  35. Do you place on the left at lot? It's a very compelling image and so sharp.

  36. Enjoy your drink, pour us one. Great image. TFx
