BARKER GALLERY RIP - MY WORLD HAS BEEN CREDIT CRUNCHED

Gary Barker BBC

A change from my usual type of post, a very personal My World. These images are courtesy of Gary Barker- BBC Politics Show- Barker Gallery, and also my partner. These will possibly be the last images to be drawn for the Gallery. Due to the Credit Crunch the BBC have had to relinquish Gary, so the Barker Gallery will be no more, and yes that's a job lost. I think the Grim Reaper- ssessor is quite an apt image under the circumstances.

Unlike photos, these images are hand drawn painted and scanned into laptop. They take time to create and it is also Gary who does the dialogue too. Prints are reproduced, but for the moment the originals of each image I have under lock and key until they go to sale. I imagine they have increased in value now too.

You all know by now that we live on a small island, so no there simply isn't another job like this here. Well and truly credit crunched. My laptop too has finally died, of course at the times when a new one is the last thing we should or can be purchasing so Ramsey Daily Photo is going to struggle for while.

Very personal my world.

For more my entries click MY WORLD and thank the skywatch gang once again for another inspired idea.

I'll be cheerier next time, just a little fazed tonight.

  9. Ouch! I'm very sorry to hear of your misfortune. I hope things work out for both of you - I know it's tough making a living as an artist, even under the best of circumstances but I hate to see some one so clever and talented get pushed aside.

  12. OK, you two just pack it up and jump the pond to B'ham AL . I can fill Gary's head with the insane goings on here with our maniacal mayor -FBI arrested his crazy self today. Oh thank you Lord! . B, you and I can have a grand time drinking FB and shooting the likes of B'ham. Problem solved

  27. Life is hard nowadays.
    But not for everyone !
In France too, jobs in the public TV are in danger with the project of "our" so gifted little President.

  28. what a shame! Art just doesn't get the credit it deserves and seems to be one of the 1st things to go :(

thanks for posting his pix for us to see at least

  32. Sending warm wishes to you and yours. I am sorry to hear of your news which would be lousy to get at any time of year -let alone now! These illustrations are fantastic (love the wash your hands of all responsibility part especially, very clever touch.) I am sure with this sort of talent you and your partner will find the light at the end of this tunnel!

  33. Oh Babooshka, am really sorry to read this post.
Life is tough @ the moment, we just have to keep hoping...

  34. you're in the midst of a struggle, this was a very depressing post...

  35. A terrible start to December for you both. I'm sure Gary will be hired by a newspaper or something soon. Perhaps he could do sketches of people at Christmas parties or something. His talent shouldn't go to waste.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Not good news but I can't believe that Gary's talent won't be snapped up elsewhere - or that he'll bounce back with cards and books and whatever else people do with such great work.

Often the end of something is the beginning of something else - and it's something even better. Hold the thought.

And my thoughts, positive thoughts, are with you both.

  37. This is sad, hope things turn for better for you soon.

  38. I am so sorry to hear that your partner has been cut off, another victim of this frightening economic downturn.

I love the Fat Cats, very apt. We know they'd be grinning, if only they could give up their fat cigars. :-(

  39. Sorry to hear this. I know Gary has little chance of being picked up on the island, it's locked tight with the old boy network. Talent always leaves the island. I had to leave. I went to uni came back and soon left again.

  40. I'm very sorry to hear about this and I hope that things will be looking up for you soon.

  41. I hope for you these hard times, will be short times.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Sorry about your bad news. I hope things turn up quickly for you and Gary.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Unfortunately I couldn't see the images you put here - but from what I've seen on BBC link - it was worth shoeing it.
P.S. I hope everything turns up right and fair!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Having been unemployed before, I know how it is. But true talent will win the day regardless, and from the looks of it there's plenty of that to go around the gallery.

The BBC, after all, isn't the only news outlet in the world that can make good use of Gary's work.

'Fraid encouragement is all I have to offer at the moment, but if inspiration strikes you'll be my first call.

I like your daily news even though its a bit 'bad'but reality and I wish you all the best, I agree with your wordsand same to you: "Don't add days to your life, add life to your day."

  50. B. I'm gutted for you both. I know it had been so hard for you both over there. Tell those Manxies to shove it. Can we get the BBC to reconsider? I will be sending in a letter. Politics is boring, Gary made me lol.

  60. Babboshka: What an awful time to be going through. I have been through down economies and they normally return to order. This one may take a bit of time. I hope for the best, your talented partner should find other work.
