England is Across

                                 Over there

I live on the Isle of Man.  It's an island in the middle of the Irish Sea. Like all good things it comes in small packages but perfectly formed. That is the view from the beach to England, The Lake District, from the beach in Ramsey. I'm what is called a comeover, though I am a stayover having being here over ten years. I came from that place over there, England. Now I have learned to call, that place you see in the image the land, "across" and the island I live on is "the mainland" and a pretty little mainland it is too.

  3. I live on an island 'down under'. I would gladly slough off this term, as it pre-supposes that up-over is the 'mainland'.

  4. Ha - I love it!

Having visited twice, quite a few years ago now, we seriously considered moving to the IOM. We love it. However, with a disabled, widowed mother, I felt it was not the right thing to do, since getting to and from 'Across' is so time-consuming. Now, I have tiny grand-daughters and ... well, you know how it goes.

Pity. I miss the peace and the wildness. Must come back some day to spend some tourist money!

  7. I was looking at the photo and the sea almost feels as if it's moving (seriously)!

Beautiful view. Is it easy to get across to England? How long would a ferry take?

Weather seems to be so much better where you are than across. I hope you're having a wonderful week.

  10. It must be an amazing island if you've stayed there for 10 years!
