Reflecting on the new Swimming Pool
My World
This week is reflection week on this blog. All images will include or be a reflcetion of one kind or another. All images will also have no alterations and shot on a Nikon D50, wide anlge lens. I am trying to show what can be achieved with a camera, not a computer. Here then today is the inner side of Ramsey Habour, the inlet, or " little harbour " as I have heard it refered to by a few locals. As you can see the Harbour was without much water, so reflections were a little thin on the ground, but I prefer it that way. Makes you work harder to find a suitable subject and tease out the photograph.
What can you see?
The buildings on the left are a combination of apartments and bed and breakfast accommodation. Ideal if you like a seaview. The front of those building look onto Mooragh Promenade, beach and Irish Sea featured last week. To the left of me out of shot is Mooragh Park. The strange building with the sloping roof top right is a new addition to the skyline. That's the controversial new swimming pool which has featured before front on in the blog. Controversial as we already had one over the bridge which for varying reasons had to close. The new pool is not as conveniently situated as the old one and the design is not to everyone's taste. I've covered this before, prior to opening and before I do another post I want to(over) hear what people have to say. Honest reactions not just "yes man" noises about how wonderful it is. We can all do posts like that, but that is not an honest representation of the place I live, and that has and always will be my aim of this blog. You can see for yourselves on other posts the beauty or not of the town. For now I will leave you with a cool blues winter afternoon reflection of a small part of my world.

It has a gym feel more than a pool structure. Did you like the design?
ReplyDeleteWhat I noticed were the boats that were left grounded by the tide. Do they normally park them like that??
ReplyDeleteV- You knew after yetserday's extraordinary shot I had to do a subdued one. I can't hep myself. Too easy to go for the pretty everday. That though is the photographic truth. Not everday is a sunset.

I think this is a good reflection on this part of your town. I've seen a roof line like your pool over here and I still don't know if I like it.

ReplyDeleteIt is interesting to me how so many of your photographs remind me of paintings. I know I said that on your monochrome shot too but particularly since you these shots aren't altered it makes it even more interesting that they have a paint like feel to me (in a good way).
ReplyDeleteI like your honest approach to the issues about where you live. If the new pool isn't as conveniently located, I can see why that would become an issue.
The sky was really blue today. You must have taken this early afternoon? Am I right? I have no problem with the shape of the buidling but you can't get the meals like the other place. How did you do the photo yesterday?

Looks like the pool sprung a leak. I don't see the point of the new pool the building is ugly and spoils the view. Nice shot of the inlet.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo. I like how you have caught the reflection in the remnants of the water. Now the new swimming pool. I love it. Designed I believe to look like a wave with the cuved roof. Modern materials so the upkeep is minimal. The inside is stunning state of the art. A lot better than the old one which was expensive to heat and I'm sorry to say had seen better days.Position wise it's not a million miles from the old pool and is in fact opposite where the even older pool / lido previous to the one by St Pauls, used to be

I dream of a good camera, automatic it seems, as I dont even expore the settings on what I've got. Am an infrequent visitor to the blogsphere, which seems to defeat the whole purpose but there it is!!

That is difficult to say. I like the ordinary items we see and take for granted. Then compose to make them more interesting. At least that is my aim. Whether I am successful remains the debate.
In words of Elvis Costello "my aim is true"... I try to show sights as I see them. I wish the "film" would too at times (the vibrant setting on my camera gets closer most of the time, although sometimes it's a bit much)

ReplyDeleteGreat to see no editing....if I was clever I might have a go with photoshop so what you see is what you get with me. I smile when I see the boats grounded when the tide goes off. It is always a shame when new building just don't seem to fit in.

The juxtapositioning of the liquid and rigid structures makes a very interesting composition, Babooshka. Very nice. I LOVE (I mean LOVE, LOVE, LOVE) your yesterday's reflection photo. That's the kind of photo that strikes the aesthetic chords in me.
ReplyDeleteI like this photo, simply because it takes what is a very ordibary view and makes it bounce. The light and the reflection in the very small amount of water gives meaning to the picture. The swimming pool? Hmm I don't think swimming pool buildings are ever attractive. This almost looks like a skate board rink. Ha thats a good idea. Let them skate into the water at high tide. What fun.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful reflection, colours. Made actually more interesting at the lack of water. I enlarged the photo and he quality is superb. Love the light and shadow and angles of the houses and beautiful soft colours.

ReplyDeleteFrom the photo the pool isn't at all in keeping with the surroundings and in fact it does look like the roof of a gym or stadium. However from this angle at least it isn't too obtrusive..

ReplyDeleteWhat I see is that even a little muddy water has a way of adding beauty to a shot. It's all in how you look at it. That's why I love taking photos.
