Pretty Vacant


V - Is for vacant

Now there's no point in asking you'll get no reply, (just like Isle of Man Newspapers!), honestly no one's out to lunch as no one is at home. This is just another empty property I have come across on my travels around Ramsey, Lezayre Road in fact. If anyone was looking for prime spot in Ramsey to rent a flat(apartment for my American friends) then I would suggest here. A minute from the Swan pub, Shoprite Supermarket, The library in fact you could watch the Isle Of Man TT Races from the window. Any takers?


It really is rotten luck that a lovely building such a this should be lain to waste. On the other it makes a great photo opportunity. With the credit crunch now it's just a vicious circle of pretty vacant properties like this beauty awaiting a tenant or buyer while falling into ruin, then becoming to expensive to restore etc. I've no illusions about the romance of buildings such as these. Yes perfect for photographers, but I'd much rather it was restored and converted into affordable housing even if that means making it into a bland faceless facade. Unfortunately accommodation is paramount not my photographs.

This image is a month old. Still no laptop and my borrowing time is now down to a minimum. Some of you may have noticed I have had a little fun with this post.

    It could be a haunted house! It looks similar to the style of house we have around here.

    It is too bad that building is sitting vacant. I can only imagine how beautiful it could be if it were taken care of.

    I find empty houses and buildings very sad. A friend of mine who is in construction said an empty house dies every day it is empty. I do believe that too. MB

    these old empty buildings always get me to wondering about the past lives who lived there. Spooks, ghosts.

    Oh no..still no laptop..I don't know what I would do without mine. I am so sorry about that. How are you keeping up? Regarding vacant..there are going to be more and more vacant places with this economy. Darn last 8 years in the US...

    V could also be for "vibrant" in describing the resonance of the vibrating yellow-umber and deep blue. Pity I can't pop over and rent this imposing edifice for a short spell.

    I couldn't agree more Babs. The rude ignoramuses at the island's newspaper put even the rest of the businesses on the island to shame and (as anyone livin here knows) is really sayin something!

    The building seems to be like 80 years old or so and I guess after some good work inside it can became a fantastic house.

    Lovely photo! I noticed while sightseeing in Phoenix, Arizona lots of empty storefronts that were filled last year. The credit crunch is hitting everywhere.

    So, how much is the rent? Your locale is so beautiful, someone could rent out rooms to tourists:)

    I got the card. Thank you it's so funny and really sums up what's happening in the UK. Tell Gary it will be winging it's way around the council offices to all the right departments. It is a shame that we let building rot in the UK. Hope santa brings you lots of new customers in the New Year, both of you. I also hope the BBC sack the deadwood and start the Barker Gallery up again - it is missed.

    Perfect V. I know the property and it's a shame that it's been left to rot as it has. Far too many properties like this in Ramsey if you ask me.

    I have no idea what property prices are like on the Isle of Man. As you say any vacant property is a shame..

    I fear we shall have more abandoned buildings and homes in the near future.

    The colors are bold; deep blue sky. One thing I notice is during winter here in Minnesota, our sky will take on a reddish/peach color sky. I believe it is from the frozen moisture in the air reflecting street and city lights.
