RAMSEY RUGBY

One of those bottoms was sat round my house today! Supping coffee, recalling his hols, visit back home(Irish, not a Manxman), the weddings, looking at Gary's latest work and of course talk of the Rugby Season. Hence the image. It tied in with me organizing the image library and again this is one that has been gathering virtual dust. Sometimes you just forget what you take and why. This I'll dedicate to Joanne in England who can never get enough of my Rugby pics of men in shorts. It's only a stock one so I'll send you a large image for the French hols pics. Deal.

Ramsey are the ones in the blue shirts. I was going to upload the monochrome version, then I realised that would be no good if I said blue shirts in a black and white photo. Doh! Anyway it's Rugby Season. This was home game match( I am not allowed to mention the other team) and as you can see the lads were getting stuck into a "scrum." The Rugby Pitch, Mooragh, runs alongside the Promenade. You can see the harbour in the background. In other Rugby shots I've shown you the Mountain backdrop. I know I'm lucky. No hooligans here. It's a family sport.

Brad, this is also for you and your son's baseball games. Take static shots first, where they are positioned for action, then progress to movement shots we discussed. Next time I'll show how to freeze the action, even on a little digital. This sport is a lot easier to take than the motorbikes. Another tip, know the rules of the game. This helps to take the money shot. The local paper will only take a few shots and disappear. You stay the game and you'll get the better shot. Again do not saturate the colours. The teams strip should be photographed as they wear it, not over egged.

Looking forward to the season. Expecting some big wins this year, and some great photos. Ramsey, don't let Ramsey down. I'm watching you.

  2. I love this shot....You know I never think of photographing people like this. Think now that I might get down the Moorragh to watch the next game.

  3. LB,

I followed your instructions to the letter. Most are good. I'm getiing a purple fringe on some shots? Can you talk me through it? Only on the darker shots, most are fine like you said. I still can't freeze the shot. I know, buy a book go to nightclass. No time LB.

    Thanks in advance.

  6. I used to play rugby. I don't really seem like that type, but I always had a blast. The scrum is my favourite part! Great job!

  7. This game, as well as cricket are two of your games I do not understand. Although I have enjoed listening to a match way back when on shortwave. I sure wish we had this televised where I live, sounds like an interesting game.

  8. OK , I need some explanations here. YOu talk about bottoms -get that. Then hols and scrums. Don't get that. Could somebody give me a heads up on the lingo? Thanks! B, this is a different look for you I think, but I always love seeing your town through your impeccable lens.

  10. My niece is going to a high school where women's rugby is offered...much as I like the game I value my nose too much to play.
Lovely clear shot, the light is so mellow.

  11. Great shot, Babooshka! Yes, gets us in the mood for some good fall knock'em, sock'em football. Hoping to see more of your rugby too.

  14. My youngest (11) represented the Island at tag Rugby this year. Three of my four kids are very active in sports, and I hold this down to the funding and support given. For such a small place, the facillities provided here are excellent.

Moving from "Across", I vowed never to take this place for granted, seven years down the line I still wake up with a smilke on my face!

  15. (Okay, you spotted the deliberate typo, huh? (Smile.)

  16. Virginia- Hols, holiday/vacation. A scrum is when they all huddle together in the pic. The man on the left with the headgear is about to throw the ball in.

    Tash - I'm an insomniac.

Angela - I value my nose too, but I've got a bit close to the action sometimes.

Brad- purple finging, email on it's way.

    Good morning everyone and thankyou.
Off to the big town today, Douglas.
    Bye.

  18. Hello !

Le rugby est un sport très sympa, et un peu moins "polué" par l'argent que le foot...

  19. Now that looks like it could hurt. I will be trying to steal some of your tips for Brad.

  21. I read your post and enjoyed your photo but that is about all I know to say. I don't know anything about rugby or football the way it is played, say in Australia. I have watched a few cricket matches but had no clue as to what was going on. I feel, sometimes, like a handicapped person who has to pee and has no way to open the door.

I don't know if you are interested or not or if you have ever seen a Pileated Woodpecker, but I posted one on My Birds Blog this morning. It is our largest woodpecker and this is the first one I have seen here in 46 years.

  22. Great photo. But, who wins the match? is there a competition or it's only a match?
    Greetings from Murcia.

  23. I have two Russian girls staying with me until the end of the month. I took them to an American football game and they just could not get their brain wrapped around the concept that American football takes place across America every weekend in every town- no matter the size- at all high schools, colleges and universities as well as the pros....Mind boggling....This is a great shot of your Rugby!

  24. I'm not keen on rugby so whilst the picture didn't hold my attention the commentery and the comments still took my attention (americans should be taught the rules of European sport in school shouldn't they??)
colour comment though had me thinking Ted Lowe (for those of you in B&W the green ball is behind the blue)

  28. Go Ramsey! I've never seen a Rugby match but my nephew plays on a team in San Diego. Maybe it's gaining in popularity here? Would love to see it sometime!
