Back to the birds! Same as my first Odd Shots a few weeks back(the chaffinch on my hand) this little siskin flew into the window. I again sat with him for about 2 hours until he started to come round. For some reason they always seem to hop onto my hand. Maybe it's to escape the cats or warmth, but they all seem to do this when injured, but rousing.
This time I didn't have the tripod. Instead I tried my new macro, that I've been dying to use. So this is a one handed macro shot. Not the ideal way to get a bird image, but it seem to have worked out ok. I seem to have a charmed life when it comes to photographing birds. Had no idea what odd shot to do this week, when this little fellow appeared last friday. Unlike the locals the birds seem to adore being part of ramsey daily photo.

Now that is some macro shot! It is odd because I would never expect a bird like that to trust humans to land on a hand and just short of a miracle that you could get a shot off to capture for us to see!

ReplyDeleteThis reminds "Louis" of the 'Far Side' cartoon drawn by Garry Larsen showing a bird bouncing off a window, the caption being 'Bird discovers the phenomenon of windows'.
ReplyDeleteCartoon aside, "Louis" found these photos to show a real tenderness - and "Louis" was struck by how the bird's expression in the first photo shows an uncommon trust. The bird seems to know it is very vulnerable, but also very safe with you.
Mme. la Vache really likes birds, so she was delighted with these photos.

ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful birds, and this little fellow is a joy to see. We get great flocks of these in the winter, come spring and summer I rarely see them. I'm sure the colouring and the leaf cover are to blame for that. Great captures and well done ith the testing of the macro.
