GEORGE THE ESCAPED PELICAN

Say hello to George posing nicely here showing his best side. George is a bit of a celebrity as he escapes from the Wildlife Park, here on the Isle of Man, to Ramsey, usually the promenade, (where this pic was taken) on several occasions. Why he only flies to Ramsey is a mystery, must be good fishing for pelicans. He is not the first escapee pelican, that honour goes to Scotty in '98, and I'm sure he won't be the last. Scotty though made it to Scotalnd, so obviously a more adventurous pelican. Actually I think George just wanted to feature in the Ramsey Daily Photo and was a bit miffed I have photographed so many other birds. He's make a great odd shot sometime. Whole new meaning to a Pelican Crossing!

  1. He doesn't look like my idea of a pelican!
Or maybe it is just me because to be fair, I have never seen a pelican this close.
    Good choice ;)

  4. Hello, George. You are a handsome devil and I know your beak doesn't hold more than your belly can. You are a handsome dude and I suspect you fly away looking for the opposite sex.

I posted a picture of my furry mother for Mother's Day. She was so special we considered her part of our family.

  22. This photo is great and reminds me of a trip to London. I had never seen a Pelican before (I know!) and I first saw one last year in St James' park in London. I couldn't believe how big they were! The Pelicans in the park were in the news as they had eaten a pigeon (whole!) in front of a group of shocked school children!!

  25. There is always something interesting in your picture. Sometimes a story behind it, or perfect angle in your shot. And I like this shot too.

  26. So George the Pelican escaped, did the Pelican Police ever catch him, and return him home?

Cute picture, he is so relaxed, just sitting there I guess with his belly full;)

  27. Oh hello George! I think you are right: he looks a little resentful. I'm sure he'll feel much better when he'll see a printout of your blog featuring him as the star of the day. So what will happen to George? How will he go back home? Or will he stay and make friend with Scotty?
